AG'er murdered at ITU World Championship

Not wanting to speak ill of the dead, I still wouldn't put all the city:

Budapest - A local man has been arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing an amateur athlete who competed in a recent triathlon in the Hungarian capital, Hungarian police said on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old suspect has denied carrying out the knife attack, deputy chief of Budapest police Valter Fulop told reporters.

The 48-year-old victim, a New Zealand-Ecuadorian dual national, had been found bleeding from knife wounds before dawn on Sunday in a Budapest street noted for its night life.

The man, who has been named in New Zealand media as Warwick John White, died shortly after being transferred to hospital.

The victim had fallen into an argument with a prostitute and was subsequently stabbed by the suspect, who had been waiting nearby, Fulop said.

According to the website of the Triathlon ITU World Championships, White had competed in the Budapest stage under the flag of Ecuador, which was also listed as his place of residence.


Found stabbed just before dawn after arguing with a prositute doesn't sound he was keeping to the trendy tourist areas.

He could have also been out celebrating a great race, was out fairly late and ran into them.  Maybe she was trying to prop him and it turned ugly when he said no.

And to tell you the truth, where most of the hotels were located, I wouldn't call them trendy tourist areas like we have in the states.  Or he could have been drunk, turned around and lost.
