My first tri is in less than two weeks (Culpepper VA Sprint). Timing is by Championchip -- I'm familiar with these from running, but how are they attached to the athlete for a tri? Obviously you just can't lace them onto your shoe like in a marathon!

Set-up inc (the race promoter for Culpeper) uses a plastic band similar to a hospital wristband to attach them to your ankle. Make sure you don't get it too tight.

I'll be at Culpeper too.

A bunch of people coming out of the water at Clark Lake had theirs come off. Some were holding them and some stated theirs was asleep with the fishes. Just make sure the velcro is nice and loopy and it is really on. Then forget about it.

Good info. Nice to know you'll be at Culpepper. Based on your training logs, I'll wave goodbye as you disappear into the distance in front of me!

the bear - 2005-07-27 3:16 PM Velcro ankle bracelet.

... which comes off quite easily during the swim!

You know those wristbands they put on you at clubs (and sometimes tris)? That's what the Reebok Tri used.

I had a supplied velcor strap come off in a pool swim last year. I bought my own from DeSoto. Nice clean strong velcro, not ratty. When they offer those hospital straps that cut your skin, I just pull out my own strap and decline the plastic. One of the best purchases I've made.

They had Champion Chips at the NYC Tri. It was a velcro band around the ankle, and mine wasn't going to come off during the race. Actually, it was difficult to get it off at the end.
