One Night In Bangkok always makes me smile and Footloose - add a little Motley Crue and Huey Lewis and maybe a shot of Joy and Pain and I'm happy!

Ohhhh, Footloose! That would be a great little surprise on a tough bike/run!

I'm downloading it tonight!

Anything by Eminem and Limp Biskit get the heart racing but sometimes I need to smile and relax.  That's when I find the old country classic "CONVOY!!!"

Yeah we got a great big convoy rockin through the night!!!!

I really like to have silly songs on my list.  Anything that will make me laugh and remind me that all of this workout nonsense is for fun.

So I'll have a good bit of Tenacious D, the Theme from the Muppet Show, and even Ernie (from Sesame Street) singing Rubber Ducky.

marmadaddy - Shining Star by EW&F is this week's discovery for me.

ericwjacobson- Green Grass and High Tides - Outlaws

DaniD- Chemical Brothers: Block rockin' bits

Resurrecting a good thread, I downloaded the three songs above yesterday, and ran with them.  Nice ones I would have never picked myself!

My contribution of unlikely songs comes from a run last weekend when I borrowed my wife's ipod.  Not much of a country guy, but I really liked...

Country Roads by John Denver,  and Suspicious Minds by Waylon Jennings and Jessie Colter.  Both songs just sort of had me floating and smiling for a while.  I've now got them on my playlist too.

I bought a Need to Breathe cd so I could add "Like we Were Children" to the ipod for an up tempo run song.

I realize this is all very subjective, but for a punk/ska flavor, I like Rancid to run to.  I have "Out Come the Wolves", "Indestructible", and "Let the Dominoes Fall" albums all on the ipod.

Specific songs:

Rancid: Let the Dominoes Fall
Rancid: Avenues and Alleyways
Rancid: Roots Radicals

Green Day is also an option.  But I've really gotten into Rancid since the summer.

Roadkill by the Dickies, anything by Be Your Own Pet, Your Kisses Are Wasted on Me by the Pipettes, ABC by the Pipettes. Just thinking about those songs makes me want to go workout.....if it weren't 12:30am!

Singing in the rain/umbrella by the Glee club.  Yes, I'm actually quite serious and plum red at this very moment.

Bad to the bone: Artist need not be named

Last Resort by Papa Roach

Jam On It by Newcleus (laughing in my head as I'm typing this one).

Rebirth: by Bone Thugs and Harmony

Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue

Knocking on Heaven's door: Guns N Roses

Providing links for the next few as I have a funny feeling.....

Right down the line by Gerry Rafferty.  A great oldie but goody with a good feel beat and lyrics to it.  Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sedPivIxfM

Into the Ocean (calling you) by: Evermore  A video for all of those who love the water and sky.

A song for the soul:  Beautiful Beautiful by Francesca Battistelli

I'm all over the map with my songs and love them all, but really anything from the 80's will do it for me..........Michael Jackson included <---------Did I just really say that!!  Guess so.

jdwright56 - 2010-10-08 10:55 AM I can't believe I am going to actually tell anyone about this, but.....

We were on vacation and my daughter and I went to the local Y to work out.  I decided to run on the track (which bores me to tears) and I had forgotten my Ipod.  My daughter gave me hers.

So I am running on shuffle and a song comes on that I have never heard.  It had a really good beat and it wasn't lyrically challenging (as I prefer most of my music to be) but it was kind of "bubble-gummy".

I came in from the track and naded my daughter her Ipod and asked her about the song.  This is the reaction I got:

"OMG, you were listening to Miley Cyrus?  I'm telling Mom".

Miley Cyrus - "See You Again".

Yikes!!!!!

Miley Cyrus's "Party in the USA" got me through mile 10 of my HM. I'm also very embarassed about that.

mchutka - 2010-10-09 9:40 PM Oh man no one put down "Break my Stride" by Matthew Wilder?  That's 80's solid gold!!!

Seriously, I listed to that the morning of my first sprint and it made me smile all through the run!!

Thank you. I forgot about this song!

Great Question! My musical choices tend to come and go, I can only listen to half a dozen songs or so for a week or two of workouts (on the spin or ellip), before I trade 'em in for something new. Right now, my heaviest played songs are:

1. "Cold Sweat" - Thin Lizzy
2. "Combination" - Aerosmith
3. "Runaway" - Bon Jovi
4. "Get The Lead Out" - Aerosmith
5. "Rock n Roll Soldier" - Black Sabbath
6. "Open Up Your Eyes" - Tonic

It never ceases to amaze me how much harder I can go with the MP3 in the ears. It makes an average workout, fairly intense. There is nothing like it.

Don't harass me to badly for this but...

Aqua - Tarzan or Barbie (either works - they date back to High school and strange memories that make me smile)

Blue Man Group - Blue (or whatever that song is called, just fun to listen too)

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody, we are the champions

REM - almost anything of theirs, even the slower stuff.

Mc Hammer's Too Legit to Quit appeared on my iPod this morning while I was on the treadmill, and it was good.  Then Jack Johnson tried telling me to slow down that I was going to fast, he got skipped.
