Member 52 | Subject: Just for Fun - Surprisingly Good Workout Songs! Just for fun, because it's Friday! What are some of the surprisingly good workout songs that you have come across/use frequently while training? I realized mine last night - good, old fashioned, Spice Girls and NSync songs! Haha To my defence, I played my iPod on random last nigth while trying to get through a bike workout that I really didn't want to be doing. When I was coming up to my first 4' hard resistance set, I thought to myself "please play a fun a song so I can get through this!" And the iPod gods answered by playing a Spice Girls song I didn't even know was on my iPod! The next hard set was paired by NSync's "Bye, Bye, Bye", a song that was on my iPod only as an inside joke between some friends from a former race (we all wanted to end our run on that song, very cathartic!), and again, it was incredibly good motivation for the bike! I would never have chosen either song for a workout (and actually forgot they were even on my iPod) but I now have 2 go-to songs for those times that I really don't want to be biking! What are your surprisingly good workout songs? |

Champion 5868 Urbandale, IA | Subject: RE: Just for Fun - Surprisingly Good Workout Songs! I can't believe I am going to actually tell anyone about this, but..... We were on vacation and my daughter and I went to the local Y to work out. I decided to run on the track (which bores me to tears) and I had forgotten my Ipod. My daughter gave me hers. So I am running on shuffle and a song comes on that I have never heard. It had a really good beat and it wasn't lyrically challenging (as I prefer most of my music to be) but it was kind of "bubble-gummy". I came in from the track and naded my daughter her Ipod and asked her about the song. This is the reaction I got: "OMG, you were listening to Miley Cyrus? I'm telling Mom". Miley Cyrus - "See You Again". Yikes!!!!! |

Master 1366 PNW | Subject: RE: Just for Fun - Surprisingly Good Workout Songs! I also don't run to music but I do use it when on cardio machines at the gym or on my trainer at home. A couple of surprises for me: Du Hast - Rammstein Girlfriend - Avril Lavigne Pon de Replay - Rihanna To be fair though - I put those songs on my Ipod specifically because they seemed like they'd be good workout songs. |

Your van rocks. Nope... Just a Rush fan since the 70's --Eric Rush is my favorite band. I've seen them 14 times, first time was the Farewell To Kings tour. I pre-ordered the recent documentary from Amazon. I'm a bass player and at one point I could play every song through the 2nd live album note for note. Rush In Rio is my goto DVD for trainer sessions. Having established my fanboy cred: I can't run or swim to any of those songs. During the swim leg of races, I like to get a song in my head that helps me keep a rhythm with my swimming. In the Longhorn 70.3 a few years ago, I had YYZ stuck in my head while swimming. It was terrible. 7/8 just isn't conducive to swimming. OTOH, I do have a running playlist with Far Cry, but that's got a more straight forward time signature. Another recent discovery for me is "Not My Time" by 3 Doors Down. |

Master 2504 Southwest Iowa | Subject: RE: Just for Fun - Surprisingly Good Workout Songs! Sorry, way to many times have I heard "Eye of the Tiger"!!! It is the theme song for every warm up game for my daughter's volleyball, basketball and softball games in high school. I used to like the song, but it is as bad as our band getting requests for "Mony, Mony". Different songs for me. Sometimes classical comes on and makes the treadmill or rollers better. Sometimes it is some bluegrass, most of the time it is classic rock. I have about 300 GB of MP3 files, so it is hard to say what I am going to listen to. For a great start to our RAGBRAI week it was "Shambala" by Three Dog Night. Bach's Bouree in E'Minor. Or Vivaldi's Four Seasons. I would rather watch a movie while riding on the rollers, but then sometimes I lean too much because I am focusing on the movie and what is going on and I lean with the motorcycle and try not to crash the bike. :-) |

Extreme Veteran 451 Stoughton, WI | Subject: RE: Just for Fun - Surprisingly Good Workout Songs! I have nearly 300 songs on my ipod-not that I've used it in workouts yet though due to logistics on my part. But, there are a few "core" songs I have in their own playlist I love rock n' roll-Joan Jett Louie Louie-Joan Jett Dracula from Houston Back in Black-AC/DC Hells Bells-AC/DC Don't Stop Believing Walk softly on this heart of mine-kentucky headhunters (kind of weird choice for a workout song, but the beat is great) Getting jiggy w't it-Will Smith Times Like These-foo fighters Sailing-christopher cross You dropped a bomb on me-the gap band The imperial march-boston pops (yes, I'm serious) Fast Cars and Freedom-racal flatts Star Wars theme-boston pops-this is the opening and closing music of the original star wars movie Eye of the tiger-Survivor AKA the rocky theme. Snowblind friend-Steppenwolf Magic carpet ride-steppenwolf Born to be Wild-steppenwolf This is just over an hour and a quarter of music, I think. I'm also "reviewing" other music to admit into this exclusive playlist. Some of these songs were cultivated from a topic here on BT earlier this year that resulted in over 3 pages of songs.
