Subject: Pre-Workout Question
I usually wake up at 4am to get my workout in but lately i have been getting about half way through and I just die!  I am completely zapped and have no energy.  Is there some sort of supplement like a shake or something I can take because i really do not like/feel like eating that early in the morning.

Could be many reasons why you go halfway and die--what do you mean by "die"? You physically cannot continue at the same pace? But I assume you're then able to wash up and get dressed and go about your day ...

My guess is, whatever you're doing, you're doing it too hard. Lighten up. Most of your working out should be done at an intensity where you could still hold a conversation.

If you don't want to eat in the morning, you could take an energy gel with a bit of water, or drink some Gatorade, if you think that's the problem. I have a feeling, though, it's what I said above. Again, hard to tell without info.

Strong sweet milky coffee before an AM workout.

(also an orange squeezed into 375mls of water for some pre workout hydration and a few extra calories).

...works for me

Nothing in your logs to see what you mean by "workouts." Two-mile run, or 16? Twenty-mnute swim or 90? What intensity? You should have enough caloric energy stored in your body to fuel a workout as long as two hours , I've frequently done 12-, 14-mile runs wthout eating before or during.

As the melon lady said,  hard to tell without info.

eat a big dinner, you'll still be digesting it when you wake up, but won't have that "full stomach feeling"

I have the same issue...don't want to eat at 5 am.  I consume one gu gel w/ caffeine and that is sufficient to get me through.

Ensure or some similar kind of sporty shake,  if you like milky stuff (some people can't get that down in the morning).

Recent studies show a meal high in low gi carbs prior to bed will have you charged up and ready to go in the morning.  I like to eat before my 4:30 workouts and just do oats, milk, and some protein powder.
