I believe that Turtle Crawl is no more, so this will replace it and support the local community. 

So, I believe that they were looking to support and comlpiment the local community.


The Turtle Crawl is still going on (the same day), but Jekyll Island has picked up the race - it looks like GA Multisports dropped both their races in Coastal Georgia.

However - the idea of scheduling this event the same weekend (or any time near) as the Turtle Crawl seems almost irresponsible from a standpoint of lookibng after and supporting the local community.

Overall, this is a small community looking to build and expand the events it has to offer and this event should be planned to complement or supplement and not compete with it. 



I thought the same thing but they are trying to partner with Turtle Crawl so that this weekend is "The Triathlon weekend".....they made the bike longer so that it wouldn't directly compete with the Turtle Crawl Olympic.  Personally, I think they would have been way better off if they did this one on Sunday though....too much going on the same day, in practically the same place.
