Rev3 SC or SC Half??

I'm not familiar with either of these races, but if I was in this situation, I would go with the one in my hometown, just seems like it would be more fun, no obligation, just seems like it would be more fun to race in a familiar place.

I expect this thread will get moved to the SC Forum so if it vanishes from here I would look for it there.

I have never done the SC HIM but I did do the Festival of Flowers Oly race which is basically the same course. SetUp Events always runs a great race. Greenwood on the other hand is not what I would call a destination city.

I personally am planning on the Rev3 in Anderson. Even though it is the first year, I'm sure it will be a great race and living in Anderson would be an advantage because you will be able to ride the course multiple times.

Look at # of participants (if you can tell), cost, setup, etc.

Rev3 does a good job so my bias would be towards them.

My plan, right now, is to do a much earlier half.  So, the Rev3 OLY is in my sights.  I honestly just wanna do a REV3 event.  I hear great things about the org..

Like someone else said, though.....I'd do the one in my hometown.

I've done the SC Half.  Great course, and setup events does a GREAT job with it.  REV3 I'm sure will be good also.  But having done a few inagural races I've learned that things can go wrong the first year a triathlon is put on.  The longer distance it is, the more that chance goes up.  Take the Augusta 70.3 for example.  The first year they ran out of nutrition on the run course.  And this year, the second year, they ran out of medals!  How does that happen?!?

Either way you decide to go, my guess is that both races will still be around for years to come.  Just my thoughts.

Thanks guys I am still 50/50 on my decision but I have a while to figure it out. I have heard a lot of good things about Rev3 but like steveseer said a lot of things can go wrong in an inaugural event.

Rev 3 does a great job and to boot it is in your hometown. Rev 3 does a great job making the race into an event for the family, spectators and well as the athlete. Since this is your hometown you probably have trained on the course and can enjoy a homefield advantage and have a local cheering squad. Hope to see you there.

Both are going to be excellent events.  Rev3 entry will probably be ~50% more and more of an "event," SC Half will probably be a smaller field and more low key.  I doubt you'll be disappointed with either.  I'm happy they moved SC back to a more reasonable date.  I'm a big fan of the Setup races.

Neither are likely to fill.  No need to make a decision now.

Set Up Events (SC Half) does a great job at their races.  For full disclosure, Rev3 also has a very good reputation but I have not done one of their races.
