Total Time = 2h 05m 12s
Overall Rank = 179/192
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 6/7
Pre-race routine:

4am SUCKS.
Ate a bagel in the car on the way up, laid out transition area and made sure I knew what was where.
Event warmup:

Swam about 200M
Swim
  • 20m 18s
  • 850 meters
  • 02m 23s / 100 meters
Comments:

First time out - I did more passing than was passed, which meant I kept coming up on people. Got more than my share of being kicked, pushed, bumped, etc. This was particularly bad at first as everyone was so bunched up. As we got further into it, it got better. Overall I was pleased.
Transition 1
  • 05m 43s
Comments:

This seems long but the ramp from the water to the transition area was 2/3rds of it, all uphill. Everything was where I needed it. Official time in the transition area was 3:53.
What would you do differently?:

Bring something to sit on while putting on shoes and socks, speed laces, and a pair of tri-shorts already on so I don't have to squirm into a cotton-lyrca mix while damp.
Bike
  • 1h 01m 44s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 12.05 mile/hr
Comments:

omg I thought I was going to die on all those hills. Straight out of T1 you have a LONG climb. It was pretty much all uphill to the turnaround. Totally hozed the turn around (way too wide - ended up in the gravel). Then somewhere around halfway back it became all downhill. Would have been OK but I had to brake because I wasn't used to flying that fast around curves.
What would you do differently?:

Hill practices. Asked for a bike computer for christmas!
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

41st fastest time - very pleased.
Run
  • 36m 23s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 14m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran down the hills and walked up them. Remember the evil hill right out of T1? You have to climb it for T2 as well. I'm pretty darned pleased to be under a 15 minute mile given all the hills.....
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around until my breathing came back to normal. Drank a LOT of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No hill practice.

Event comments:

This is reputed to be the hardest course in the state. Of course, i found that out after I signed up.....

Congrats Rebecca;
1st of all it was nice meeting you Sunday. Secondly, GREAT JOB on a very tough course. The hills were real tough but you got through them where as alot of people didn't. I know of at least 2 people that DNF'd on the bike course do to it just kicking their a$$.

Great job finishing that run too. I hated the run.

You did it!  Awesome!  Sounds like a tough course too.

PS - Get used to the o'dark 30 getting up times to get to the race.  I think that's the 4th event myself.

Congrats Triathlete!!

Great job on a hard course...just think how much easier a flatter course will be for you.

You did great all around and you will have experience to help you prepare for your next one. When is your next race BTW? Any more down in AZ this year?

You did fabulous!!

GREAT JOB!!! So now that you know how easy they are I guess we will be seeing you for the GCC Halloween race right :-) !!  You can still sign up until the 15th and the race is on the 30th.

I know it may seem a bit early since you just finished and are probably still recovering from this race but I think you can do it.  Besides, I didn't have the honor of meeting you this last weekend :-(...hopefully I'll see you there at GCC.

P.S.  I think I saw you in the gravel on the turn around on the bike...I passed by just at that point...I was thinking you were gonna ride the rest of the way over there.  Don't worry, I had a hard time with that turn too and almost found myself in the gravel.
