If you can't laugh at yourself........go ahead and laugh at me! I dont know why I waited till now for everyone to enjoy this.

My last Tri in Cleveland during my T2 went something like this:

Hit orange cone entering the dis-mount area......stuck in btwn frt tire and fork
Jogged to the T-area with bike (cone fell out halfway there) and began to rack bike
Racked bike and rack started to tumble over (bum rack post) lots of bikes shifted but none fell
Caught rack (along with my breath) and balanced it best I could
My bike hit the ground, grabbed it and racked it GENTLY
Couldnt get helmet off so took camel-back off
Took a deep breath and got the helmet off.....glasses hit the pavement (forgot about those)
Made sure that my mess was contained and not blocking anyone
Nightmare over in 1min 15sec.

I still smile when I think of it....obviously out of embarrassment but still pretty funny. Anyone else in my club?

For all of us... it's not a matter of "if"....  it's just a matter of "when".

I had a pretty poor one in my last race as well.

Feet out of shoes on the ride in, get off that the dismount line,

hear a cry from a marshall "You've lost a shoe"

Thought f* it, I'll pick it up at the end

Proceed to fail to put my running shoes on not once, not twice by three times (insole kept crunching up)

run into another racer on the way out (because he was running to the run exit, I was running to the bike exit) turn round

get half way to the run exit and realise I'm still wearing a bike helmet.

Go back and chuck bike helmet into transition bag, miss completely (but it's under the racks, and not in anyone's way) then finally get on with my run.

Fortunately the kind mashal looked after my lost bike shoe till the end of the race for me

Last race was in water that polar bears wouldn't have wanted to swim in. My calves were cramping from the cold and lack of blood giving to them(I don't really kick) that I fell over not once, but TWICE in T1. While getting my wetsuit off, my one calve just simply decided it did not feel like supporting my knee anymore, and down I went in a contraction of pain. I finished the wetsuit stripping on my arse, only to get half way up and nose dived again! The guys near by were spilt between laughing and thinking I was half way through a seizure. Needless to say, wasn't my fastest T1.

My silliest T2 was at the only duathlon I've done. Small crowd (200 people would be generous) but I used a different towel (plain white) to lay my things on. Ran in looking for my rack. Couldn't find it. No really. Running up and down looking for my stuff. I had to wait for my friends behind me to come in and go to the rack we shared before I figured it out.

Didn't really matter because the folks ahead of me beat me by tens of minutes, not the good two I wasted running up and down, but I'm sure I had the longest T2 of the day. Learned a good lesson, too.

Reebok last year.  Wondering where the heck were my earplugs. oh, well.  Coming in to T1, something jammed in my bike shoe.  what the.... oh, it's my earplugs.  Spent a minute trying to get jammed in earplugs out of bike shoe.

Reebok this year.  Coming into T1, swim cap, goggles, watch (it had come off) down.  Bike shoes on.  Ummm..... funny.  Hey, these aren't my shoes!  hey, this ain't my helmet... or my bike.  oop!!

Quickly leave.  Found my bike.  Dang, I left my stuff over there.  Go back, retrieve cap, goggles, watch.  Back to my bike.  T1 time: 3 minutes and change.

T2: couldn't get out of one bike shoe. Ran with one shoe, it wasn't working, so stopped and took it off.

I think Reebok is cursed for me as far as T's go.

Funniest T1 had to be in June when I was in the first wave due to my high placing from the previous year.  I come running out of the water, across the beach and trip over the little rise between the beach and grass.  I did major face plant right in front of athletes waiting for later waves.  Talk about embarassing!  (How did this clutz end out in the "elite" wave???) Same race the year before I slipped on the grass trying to get out of my wetsuit, and landed on my a$$.  At least that time I was first in from the swim on my rack, and I was in a random wave so nobody saw me.

T2 has always been much kinder to me.  Less complications! Though my first triathlon I almost ran with my helmet on.  I couldn't get it off and somebody had to help me.  This was in 1983 and things were simpler.  In fact I think the helmet may have been a loaner from the race.

What was funny about my T2 today was mostly my roommate Lisa, cheering me crazily through the entire transition... including while I was in the porta-potty. AND she took a picture as I came out of there.

Lemme guess which picture she e-mailed to ALL of your friends?

I ran into the volunteer who was waving us to stop on the bike before T2 - he was standing on the inside of a rather tight turn, waving his hands over his head and shouting "Dismount! Dismount!"  I was thinking "oh, $hit!" when I hit the brakes and, I swear, skidded to a stop and somehow remembering to unclip - my victory of the day!!! No bike mishap, and managed to barely avoid the volunteer by a hair, unclipped subconsciously and shalkily walked to the bike rack...could have been worse, but maybe I'm saving that one for the hometown crowd in 4 weeks!

Oh my...this is the funniest post I've read in quite some time.  Soooooo funny.  I think after the rack started to go down, I'd have to make a stop at a porta-John to clean something up.

Great stories...I'll have to keep these in my mental catalog when my nerves get the better of me. Nothing like a good dose of the giggles to make the jitter bugs go away!

Any more? I just may have one to add after next weekend!

Not as funny as the others but felt like it. I started running with my bike shoes (one the grass), ran back to switch shoes, then was stopped by a volunteer after he reminded me I still had my bike helmet on (back to T2 again).
