Subject: Rest time between last race and first tri?
I'm planning on doing my first tri's around the second weekend of June 2011 (date hasn't been set yet). Two weeks before there's the annual Ottawa Race Weekend where I would like to run the half-marathon.

Is two weeks enough rest before competing in my first tri? Or would that be pushing it?

Thanks,
Shawn

What distance tri?
Are you already a runner and/or have trained running for a while?
Have you trained for a HM enough that it doesn't really bug you and you're not sore a couple days afterwords?

Just my personal experience, but I did the same when I was first starting out.  My first tri was NOT good, and I blame the half mary.   However, I was also a new runner and it was my first half mary as well.  I had a hard time staying motivated after the run and felt tired/flat.   And the first tri might have been hard regardless.

If you have running experience, and can plan your schedule well for those two weeks (including rest/recovery) you can probably do it.  But I don't think you can necessary depend on your first triathlon being as good as if you'd followed a schedule with that as your main race.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. This will be my 4th half and the tri will be a Sprint distance.

The standard rule is one day of recovery for each (running) mile at race pace.  So two weeks after a half mary should be enough.

Of course, each person is different- so the YMMV qualifier applies.

Yikes! That's a lot of off time. I've heard of one day per hour on the course and tend to follow that but per mile?
