best

thread

ever.

My theory on the infection thing is that it's a species-specific "virus".  Only humans re-animate.  Just like birds can't get rabies, non humans can't get zombiefied.

Carriers dude....  Carriers.  Malaria, West Nile Virus, etc...  They don't infect or kill the mosquito, but the damn things can still transmit and infect people.  Normal mosquitos flying around biting people transmitting the zombie walker virus?  Holy crap!  That would be like game over.  Maybe the only ones left standing would be those in the Arctic, Antarctic, desert, on an aircraft carrier or submarine that never makes port, on the ISS, or sealed up in an underground nuclear/chemical bunker - until the food, water, fuel and air run out.

I love this chit!

Well, if you're operating under the theories proposed in The Zombie Survival Guide/WWZ...mosquitos and other parasitic creatures (including bats and leaches) avoid infected hosts 100% of the time. And, while the virus is 100% fatal....it only reanimates humans, and the virus itself will die off in non human hosts relatively rapidly (making the corpse of, say, your pet pony or fighting rooster, relatively safe t o handle).

It's more than that, at this stage...they've done a script rewrite, hired a director and lead actor (Pitt...who is also producing, or at least his company is), and, of course, announced it at Comic COn, which TOTALLY makes it real. :-)

IMDB page reports it is in pre-production with a possible 2012 release. I just hope they don't screw this one up like they did with "I Am Legend." The book was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better!

In Dawn of the dead (Shopping mall one) the Zombies kept trying to get into the building, one of the people said it was some sort of herding instinct.

I'm probably alone in my liking of this band here, but The Devil Wears Prada cut a fantastic 5 song EP about zombies.  It really helps focus my running as I feel it has purpose now...to get away from teh z0mbeez.

But seriously, it's a good EP.

I would think of them more as acting like ants - very little individual initiative or thought, but mindlessly following a communal behavior.  They may not be as orderly, but the same basic effect, of overrunning everything in their path, and by sheer numbers, inflicting a lot of damage. Whereas herding is used by animals that are more prey than predator for safety; and group hunters (like wolves) use more intelligent coordination of roles than zombies demonstrate.

Pretty sure the movie is going to be done at some date.  Brad Pitt and DiCaprio had a huge bidding war over it which the rights sold for alot of money.  I doubt they are going to let it collect dust with all that cash invested in it.

While I doubt the movie will be better than the book, it will still be entertaining; you can go alot of directions with it and a good screenwriter is going to make or break the movie; not the actors or directors.

The problem with 'I Am Legend' is that the stupid-arse screenwriters must have read the Clif Notes version and didn't bother to read the last several chapters.  Because the movie got it BACKWARDS!  The book was so much better with the point:  Humanity has transformed into a new type of creature and Dr. Robert Neville is INFAMOUSLY legendary as a monsterous, horrific butcher!  He kidnaps people, conducts experiments on them and kills them.  He's the Dr. Josef Mengele of the time.  The girl he is experimenting on is the leader's DAUGHTER!  He's trying to rescue his own daughter from the bad guy.  Will Smith is supposed to be shown as the BAD GUY in the end.  Not some legendary hero of humanity.  The movie just totally blew the ending and for that - IT SUCKED!!!!

I didn't read the whole thread and I'm late to the party, but I do have to say after buying and watching this via iTunes/Apple TV... WTF? Only six episodes? I love the mix of drama and character interaction but am very disappointed by the length of the season, especially after having been picked up for a second season after only two episodes.

It is an AMC thing. They did it with "Breaking Bad" as well.

Ok!  I have important information about the walking dead.   I was at the local library and read the Max Brooks illustrated book about zombie/walking dead incidents/happenings/events.

You know why  the  Egyptians took out the brains of the mummies?  ......so they wouldn't come back...

Anyone ever heard of the WWII  Japanese experiments up in Manchuria ? Operation cherry blossom.. .....and who took over after WWII..?  the Rooskies.    Guess why they had all those Nuke explosions back in the 50s and 60s....get rid of the dead.....just saying

Actually, Romero originally came up with Night of the Living Dead as a gorefest, something to shock people. Then Dawn of the Dead was made as a protest of commercialism, which is why it was set in a mall. The dead go there because they're mindless zombies drawn to the commercialism that is a shopping mall. The rest were made for money.

Pfft. It was a documentary.  Next you'll be trying to claim that zombie preparedness is a metaphor for emergency preparedness.

Disappointed in the finale, but it was still entertaining...
Would have liked to:

1. have seen what happened to Merle
2. seen the reaction to the affair
3. learned a little more about what happened to the rest of the world

I'm guessing they'll address more of those things next season...

And there's been no determination as to what happened that caused the 'outbreak'...I mean they had the CDC in the palm of their hands and got 'nadda' in the way of what, when, how, why etc...
