FWIW, you get even LESS info in the books. (No CDC, the brothers aren't even figures really, etc.)

The point is never really about the disease/how it happened...it's more about what the survivors do after. How it happened is irrelevant.

I actually am enjoying the fact that we don't know a lot.  It makes the whole thing much more realistic (except for the whole CDC stuff - that still bothers me).  If there was a rapidly spreading problem, there would not be a lot of information out there.  By the time the government or the media figured out what to report, it would be too late in terms of infrastructure to disseminate information.  Especially knowing the government's propensity for trying to control the flow of information and contain things (thank you, wikileaks).
