Subject: New Shipping rule with UPS... Insurance
I recently shipped my bike off to Silverman.  I send the bike around quite a bit to different races and I encountered a new "requirement" to insure the bike this past monday...  (it could have always been there, but this was the first time that anyone informed me of it)

If you want to insure the package (the bike inside the bike box) you have to ensure that nothing that is breakable is within 2" of any of the outer surfaces of the packaging... they even opened it up to check???

Anyone else ever run into this?

Good to know... I have been using the UPS drop off sites (not the mom & pop stores) and haven't had an issues.  But I will give Fed Ex a try on the trip back!  Thanks!

I work at a store that ships UPS packages and the 2" rule is not a new one.

Many times I have seen boxes completely destroyed with what I would call ridiculous intentional abuse and UPS denies the claim due to,  "improper packaging".  Your best best it to follow the UPS packaging guidelines to the letter and then keep your fingers crossed.

Good to know... looks like with the cost and the regs, even though I haven't had an issue with 10+ shipments, I really need to check out FedEx...
