Either I have violated the laws of Physics or the months of hard work are starting to pay off. Thursday, Bike Time Trial
(9.11 miles
) in 26:54, first time every over 20mph average. Saturday, Bike/Run Brick - 13.25 miles in 41:24
(19.20 mph
) and then 3.2 miles in 24:29
(7:39 per mile
), though last 0.7 miles was at at 6:45 pace. Now I'm feeling great about these two workouts, I've been working hard and knew I'd get to the point where I'd make these kind of numbers, but didn't think it would be quite this soon, figured it'd be closer to my next planned race
(Sept. 18th
). Now for the clincher, I go down to ride the race course this morning to check it out, planned on an easy ride but I want to see what the turns will be like at close to race speeds. Now, I've been worried about this course for some time, about a mile from the start is a decent hill climb, not too steep but goes on for about 3.5 miles and then there are two similar
(though a much shorter
) climbs before the midway point. Well, I head out on the first climb, drop down to the middle chain ring
(my road bike has a triple on the front
) and cruise on up the first hill
(I think my slowest point was around 10mph
). There's a bit of a flat and I'm cruising along at 19-20mph
(into the wind
) and then hit the second hill, shift the rear and never had to drop off the big ring, same with the third hill. Once I'm there I realize it's all down hill from there on
(well, a couple of rollers but nothing to worry about
). I get back to my vehicle and look at the old computer. I must have sweat in my eyes, no way I did this, 13.19 miles in 42:20
(18.69mph
).
It's been a good week of training!
Chris.
