I did the race last year and brought my family. Yep - only a small playground with very old equipment and the lake. There are some shade trees but an umbrella is a good idea with lawn chairs. Books/toys/balls all good things to bring. If you have some fishing poles, the kids could do a little fishing on past the beach. Not a spectator friendly venue but generally triathlons aren't. My family is staying home.

Good luck everyone! We have some great tips on our web page about doing the race over the last 20 years at MuncieMultiSport.com.

Also, for all those in town, we will host an OWS at the race site on Wed. July 6th starting at 6pm. We do this every Wed anyway and wanted to welcome all the Ironman Muncie 70.3 athletes.

Race day? Either hot coffee and cool pool at my house across the lake from the start or....?

Question for those that have done an Ironman branded event.

Will I need a transition bag or does WTC provide bags for transition items. The reason I ask is I have a transition backpack that I usually unload and then give the bag to my wife. However in the past our car has been close by for her to put the bag in. I have a feeling our car could be relly far away at this race.

I also bought a big mesh bag that I can put everything in to take to transition then it would lay flat and be out of the way when empty.

Any suggestions

Going to see how the legs feel off the bike, not so bad when I did the FL 70.3 in Orlando, but the heat slowed me down.. definitely going to pull the pace back on the first few miles to see how things go.. keep it around a 9-ish pace and see if i can make it through.. would love to have a 2 hour 1/2 on this, but we'll see. starting in the 2nd to last swim wave is going to suck though..putting me out on the run course that much later.

I'm in wave 3 which I love for that very reason of being able to get on the course in the cooler part of the day. BUT, I hate it because the only folks ahead of me are the pro's and I'm not getting near them so I'm being passed all day long by you youngins. I wasn't prepared for that mentally last year but this year I'll just smile, wave or give you a cheer as you fly by.

No transition bags given for half's, only full's, that I am aware of anyway....  I just use my transition bag/backpack.

Thanks for the great race tips, and the OWS invitation. I wish I could make it out for that!

Any suggestions on the parking issue? I was thinking of parking a couple of miles out and riding my beater bike in to avoid the traffic jam, but I can't see an obvious spot to park looking at Google maps.

Just drove past the transition area, bike racks are up and porta-johns have arrived! Also, the construction company seems to have made good progress on the new play ground equipment. I would think some of it will be ready to go for the kids Saturday.

I am leaving at 6am tomorrow as well, from South GA. Going through South Carolina around Atlanta to skip having to drive thru there. On race day I ride a hot pink bike, can't miss it, come say hi to me!

I'm in the Smyrna area. I'll look out for you on the way up. Hoping google maps over estimated the trip time

I'll be in a black acura TL, with a bike rack on top (no bikes though, they go in the back seat for the long trips).

There's a facebook page for the volunteers and I've already been thanking them there but will also do it Saturday. Thanks for the reminder!

Made it to town a few hours ago, long drive from South GA. Staying with my best friend's family in Farmland. Missed packet pick-up, so will be there at noon tomorrow. On race day I will be riding a hot pink Trek Equinox with a skull on the down tube, can't miss it, very bright, no "lost in transition" moment for me.
