Subject: Mooseman vs Timberman?
So, my wife's just decided not to do her first IM next year and as a consolation prize, we're going to do a destination HIM instead (the IM was going to be AZ, which is driving distance for us, staying with friends, so wouldn't have been a "destination" race).  She's from Maine, so I thought about Mooseman, then remembered Timberman.  Both are within a couple hours drive of her brother and S-i-L's house, so both seem like win-win choices.

I've looked at a few RRs, but would appreciate any comparisons from anyone who knows both.  (And if anyone has any good suggestions for getting two bikes to either venue, that would really be appreciated.)  Thanks.

NH in August is usually a better weather bet than NH in June.  Otherwise, they are both good races (though I have only done Timberman).

2 great races that were just bought and put on by Ironman. The former race director put together great events. You can look on youtube for some video of the ride and run for each.

The courses have stayed the same but new 'extras' or lack there of have changed.

I did Mooseman in 09 and Timberman in 10, I would say the bike course for Moose was more difficult.

You cant go wrong with either. I would choose one based on your training schedule. For me, Mooseman is a bit too early in the training season, but I love the area and will do one of these again.

Actually Mman bike course changed this year (very challenging) and will be changed again next year.

OP - Both are good races with challenging course but Mman swim can get very chilly. Since Keith Jordan sold these races to the 70.3 series the sentiment of some is that the races are changing (for better or worse). This year I spectate at Tman and it sure 'felt' bigger (field-wise) than last year, I think they had like 300 extra racers.

Hmm.  My wife seems most concerned about s'mores...or potential lack of s'mores...if the evil WTC has made either event s'mores-free, that could be a deal breaker.

I am not sure about the "extras", but I though KJ was still the RD even though the events are now technically "owned" by WTC.  No?

I've done both. Moosey was a chilly (not cold) swim and a hilly bike with a mostly flat run. Timberman was a nice swim, hilly HOT bike and run.

If she's okay with heat either will do. If she's heat sensitive Moosey is probably a better bet.

Looks like you already made your choice, but I'd recommend Timberman.  You're more likely to get better weather in New England that time of year, which could mean a hot day, but it can be quite cold here in early June, especially the water.  I also like the Timberman course better.

I will also add that the Timberman course and its immediate surrounding area has a lot more to do and a lot more going on. The Newfound area (Mooseman) is a bit more isolated than the Winnepesaukee area (Timberman).

I have done both, and both me and my family has had a better time @ Timberman.

Sounds like you've made the choice, and like you said you really can't go wrong either way.  No doubt the weather can be tough at Moose, but August can be pretty hot/humid too.  Both courses are fun and have some challenging terrain.

The water in Lake Winny will be perfect for Timberman, no doubt, and Chrissie and Andy Potts have been there the last few years.

I'll be doing the sprint and volunteering at the half, so hopefully see you there (but with 2500 racers, probably not).
