After 3 weeks of trying to push through the pain, I finally went to the doctors for an extremely sore achilles tendon.  Prognosis was severe tendonitis and in a boot for 3 weeks.  Better news than hearing it was torn or ruptured.  As far as the pain scale, I have to put it next to the 2 reconstructive knee surgeries I have had.

Wow, good thing you went to have it checked.

Good healing.

I am messing with a bum achilles for about two weeks now. I didnt run for two weeks (just swam and cycled and yoga-ed). My ortho surgeon friend told me to heat it, then stand on a step and slowly step down with the injured tendon and step up with the good one then to ice the tendon. I havent had any scans for official diagnosis. Hoping to avoid the boot.

Welcome to the club.  I've been in a boot for the last six weeks for Achilles tendonosis.  Going back to the doc on Wed when I hope to get if off.

It's been a pain to wear the boot, but my Achilles does feel better and the lump on the back of the tendon is significantly smaller.

Good luck.

My sympathies, I was in a boot for all of August and part of September for a torn gastrocs.
Have someone build up a little arch support.  THose things have no support and your foot will thank you for doing that much.

Recover well.
