How can I determine if I am properly hydrated?  And if I am dehydrated, how long does it take to rehydrate?

The reason I ask is because I train almost exclusively first thing in the morning and each night before I go to bed I go through an internal struggle on water intake:  Do I drink a bunch of water and run the risk of interrupting my sleep to get up and expel that water, or do I not drink a bunch of water and run the risk of not being properly hydrated for my morning training session?

So, how can I tell if I am dehydrate, and if I need to play catch up, how long does my body need to actually absorb fluids?

Color of your urine.

Sip water throughout the day rather than a big glass once.  Your body can only take in so much and will dispel the rest.

Color of urine is exactly right.  It should be clear (free of debris) and colorless.  Additionally, one of my professors claims that if you don't get up twice overnight to micturate, you are not properly hydrated.  I only get up once.

Yeah, I am familiar with the urine test.

Any thoughts on the second part:  how long it takes to hydrate?

during bootcamp, the color of your urine was a big deal, it was summer temps too, but we were told that light yellow was best, as clear could be a sign of too much water which is just as bad as not enough water. I drink enough that i do not need to worry about urine color, but i keep a x.lg cup of water with me all day everyday, if i misplace it n don't get my usual amount od water, i will get a slight headache.

However long it takes to turn your urine back.

Have a glass of water or juice before you head out and don't worry about it.  Your "risk" of not being properly hydrated for your morning training session is extremely low.

I agree with this.  Unless you went to bed severely dehydrated, or unless you have a particularly long morning session in heat/humidity, you should be fine.  A glass when you first get up, and if worried about it a bottle carried with you and sipped during the workout, will be fine for anything relatively short... which I assume all weekday workouts are.

Urine color in combination with my body index scale which gives me a % reading that combined with my BF% gives a good indication...
