Subject: Trail shoes on road?
Are there any reasons to not wear a trail shoe on the road for everyday runs?  I've been eyeing up the New Balance 101.  Most of my running is on asphalt/chip-coated rural roads or the gravel shoulder of said roads, though I also do some running on trails of dirt and/or crushed limestone.

I think it would probably be fine, although I know my trail shoes are stiffer (less flexible) and they aren't as comfortable on the asphalt.

I would also be concerned about the tread of the shoes.  They're softer on trail shoes, so they could wear out faster if you are routinely running on asphalt.

You don't need trail shoes for those kinds of trails.

I have trail shoes for running trails.  Trail shoes have a deeper tread design. If I use them on pavement they are going to wear quicker.  If you you are planing on running on ashphalt/chipseal I would go with a regularunning shoe.

I just bought a pair of Xterra XR 1.0 Trail Shoes. They grip great off-road, but they do so because of their "Claw" like tread outline... not because they have big chunky lugs. They work very well between on and off road. The cushioning is slightly firm, but improves with break-in.
Unfortunately, they are not available in stores. I find that the size (length) runs true with other brands (Nike and Asics)... but width runs a little wider.
Just another option.
