Subject: Spare wheel for my trainer
The whether around these parts is kind of fickle so I like to have a spare rear wheel set up for outside riding and inside trainer riding.  That way I can just pop the wheel out and put a different one in if I need to change it instead of having to change the tire (I cannot get that dang yellow tire on or off to save my life!).  So I need a spare wheel and cassette.  I don't mind buying the cassette from my LBS, but they just don't have any cheap wheels and I don't want to spend $150 on a spare wheel for the trainer (plus I'm a poor grad student so $150 is kinda pricey for me).  So, I need a little help determining if a cheap wheel that I found will actually fit my bike.

Here's a couple of pics from my bike, sorry they're kinda blurry.

Bike wheel 1

Bike wheel 2

The wheel also says in very small letters:

Double Wall
6061H-T6
622x14

I found this wheel.  Will it work?  If not, can anyone offer any suggestions?  Thanks so much for the help on this highly specific question.  I appreciate it.

Holy pic size, batman.  Well at least you can read the little writing.  How about this wheel?

The one you found at Jenson is just the rim, so I wouldn't recommend going that route.  Pretty much any 700c wheel should fit just fine.  Since you're only looking for a cheap spare wheel why not try craigslist or ebay?  You might get an entire bike, let alone a wheel for $40. Casssette included.

I would call a bunch of bike shops and ask if they have a used wheel just for trainer use.

There's a pretty good chance that they have a wheel lying around that may be slightly damaged, but still good for trainer use.  For example...your trainer wheel does not need to be perfectly true...and the braking surface doesn't matter either.  As long as the hub spins, that's the main thing.

Thanks for the advice!

What about the width of the wheel though?  Don't they come in different widths.

Sorry to bump my own post.  Really it's kinda lame but I don't know who else to ask.  Do I need to pay attention to the width of the wheel?

700cc wheels come in slightly different widths, but they should all work.

Actually, I take my comment back.  Most road 700cc wheels will work.  There are hybrid 70cc wheels which can be as wide as 40mm.

Look for a wheel that's 21 or 23mm.  The tire you pictured is 23mm wide...as are most wheels out there.
