Subject: For the New Orleans/LA Bunch...

I have a problem that some of you may have faced before... I have tri bike envy.

My husband and I bought road bikes in May, thinking that if we didn't get into this whole tri thing, we were only out about 1500.00 total.  Well, here we are almost 3 months later, and we are salivating at QR's and Cervelos and the like.

My question to you is, anybody interested in a road bike?

I know most of you guys have tri bikes, but do you know any newbies or anyone else that may be interested?

Mine is a Giant OCR 3, small frame (<100 miles)

Husband's is a Giant OCR 2, large frame (<50 miles)

Any help, input, advice would be much appreciated!

Don't know if your finances allow it, but I'd be hesitant to part with the road bikes and have only a tri bike to ride. It may not cost you that much to hold onto them, given the high amount of depreciation once a bike is no longer new.

If you do intend to sell, can you post or PM the selling information? I actually do know some folks looking at this time.

I agree with bear.  Keep the road bikes, you are going to loose too much money on them by selling them.  Tri bike are sexy, but truthfully, you will not gain a much by switching to a tri bikes until you can push it past 20mph or so.

Boy, did you just open a can of worms.....I can hear the discussions between spouses now...

"But honey, I need a new tri bike, I can ride my road bike at almost 20mph and I need to go faster".......

Houston here, but may be willing to travel to pick up the larger GT.

I have a friend who is actively searching.

Can you provide additional information?

Thanks.

Hey guys...I'll try and answer some of your questions about the bikes.

If you want to see specs, pics, etc:

http://www.giantbicycles.com/us/030.000.000/030.000.000.asp?range=196

The 2005 OCR 3 is light blue (not red), size S (46.5 cm). No additions, upgrades. Haven't had it long enough to add any.  It's been in 2 sprints. 1 minor (<1 in) scratch on lower cross bar from putting it on/off bike rack. Less than 100 miles. Coming from someone with ZERO cycling experience, I really felt comfortable with this bike.

MSRP $600, Paid $600 in May 2005

Asking $450.00

The 2005 OCR 2 is black, size L (55.5 cm). No additions, upgrades. Haven't had it long enough to add any.  This bike has never been raced. Pristine condition. Less than 50 miles.

MSRP $800, Paid $800 in May 2005

Asking $700.00

The reason we are asking N.O./LA people first, is just for ease of shipping.  We may meet someone to make an exchange, just contact me and we can work something out. If you want actual pics, let me know as well.

All that being said, I am looking to buy a 46-48 cm tri bike.  I'll probably post separately, but just wanted to put it out there! Thanks guys!

Bear, H13:

Thanks for the advice on keeping the bikes. Trust me, it really hurts to let them go. But, we're planning on a major out-of-state move in about a year or so and we can't take 4 bikes with us. Better to sell them now then have them depreciate even more in a few months.
