How quiet are trainer tires ?

The only noise trainer tires make are the squeaks when you don't have the tension hard enough or you honk down on the pedal too much. The trainer itself makes the noise, wind trainers are horrible, mag trainers not so bad and fluid trainers the better ones in regards to noise.

I've used all those diff types of trainers and I agree with you.... but haven't used a trainer specific tire before. Thanks.

I'm using the Conti Home Trainer tire and the difference was very noticeable. The squealing you get when the tire slips is completely eliminated. I also notice a much more efficient workout as I don't have any slip and can really push hard.

As a bonus, the trainer tire doesn't fall apart over time, so no rubber dust to clean up.

I noticed no difference in noise.  Like Daniel said...if there is enough resistance on your current tire to prevent it from slipping and squeaking, there is no noise that comes from the tire itself regardless of if it's a trainer tire or not.

The difference lies in how the tire retains heat...which directly impacts how fast the tire will wear.

Not true, That's the reason I posted in the first place. Krylion Carbon tire on the fluid trnr.... no noise...nada... cheap Bontrager Select tire..... screams like a banshee. Same adjustments, same settings, temp., etc. That's why I want to know if some trainer tires are louder than others before I buy one.

Perhaps that people who are using trainer tires and answering your thread seem to have no idea what you're talking about re: noise is an answer to your question as well.

Ok, let's rephrase it/whatever: What is the quietest trainer tire I can get. It will be used inside so noise matters. Have never had a trainer tire so i don't know how noisy they are. Are they all the same noise level ? I posted that the type of ROAD tire I used on the trainer made a HUGE difference in noise and wondered if that was the same case with the trainer tires. Don't know how much simpler I can make it.

Ok - simple answer -

Any Trainer Tire!

I think you're overthinking this - your road tire should not make a big difference on the trainer, even with different types. Your tire should not be slipping (and thus possibly squealing) on the cylinder, and thus it should be nearly quiet.

I've tried 3 different road tires on my trainer and honestly haven't noticed any difference in sound.
I also frequent pure roadbike forums a lot and have never heard that tires make a huge difference in sound. 

I'm talking about dedicated trainer tires, not road tires..... i.e. Continental Ultra Sport or the Vittoria Zaffiro Pro or any other trainer-only tire.

I'm sure they'll both be fine - I've seen a folks on road forums touting both of them.

I have the Conti tire - it works great. Just get it - it'll last nearly forever. Not much to worry about with this purchase. 

Found a Vittoria Zaffiro for $ 28 @ REI. My first experience at this store. I asked the guy in the bike shop how quiet it was and he said if I didn't like it to bring it back.....wow.

Finally got a trnr ride in yesterday.... this tire is silent.
