Subject: Any Traverse City BT'ers Training Next Weekend??
I'll be in Traverse City, MI on Friday August 12th and Saturday, August 13th for a wedding.  I am looking for people to train with, or tell me of good places I might be able to run, pool swim, or get in an open water swim.  Any responses would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not in Traverse City, but I just wanted to say that TC, MI is absolutely beautiful!  I wish that I had taken a bike with me the last time I was up there!

I'm actually from MI (I've lived in Augusta now for 4 yeras) and spent some time in TC since I didn't live too far away from there.  I would love to bring my bike with me next weekend, but don't want to mess with it.  I will only be there for 2 days and it's for a wedding so I'll have a lot going on since I'm a bridesmaid.  I were staying longer I would definitely take my RED bike with me.  I am sure I'll get in a nice run.  An OW swim would be great.  Apparently there aren't a lot of TC BT'ers since nobody has responded yet.  Bummer..

Runnergirl-

Ever make it over to Interlochen?  The Arts Camp (ages elementary - high school) that goes on throughout the summer is amazing.  If you've got some free time (and I'm guessing that as a bridesmaid you won't), you ought to head west to Interlochen, MI and check out some of the concerts, art shows, plays, and dance recitals that are always going on over there.

Northern Michigan = beautiful!  Lots of lakes, too, so I could imagine that you could get a good open water swim or two in.  There is a state park in Interlochen (about 10 miles WSW of TC) that has a good lake.  In fact, I think the name is Interlochen State Park and it's on Duck Lake.

Too bad you won't be able to take your RED bike along.    Maybe you can make up for it when you get back!  Woo-hoo!

Steve

I thing most of us MI BTs are in the south. I think I may be the furthest north in Saginaw.  I agree with Steve,  TC is a beautiful area - just crowded in the summer.

Can't you just swim in the bay there, right off the main drag?  There's a park right there off downtown I believe.

I'm sure I can find a place there to swim.  Actually my parents live in Houghton Lake, and I'll be there for a few days as well.  I can probably swim in either Houghton or Higgins Lakes.  Although my mom said that swimmer's itch is really bad this summer in Higgins Lake, (darn, because that's the better alke) so I'll probably avoid swimming there.

and had a nice bike up the east side of Lake.

There were plenty of parks with access to the water. I jumped in and had a great swim at one of the parks halfway thru my ride.

I recommend an early start before boat traffice for any OW swims.
