Can anyone recommend one or two shops in the NoVA area that carries a fair selection of tri bikes?  I visit the area from time to time and I would like to check out some bikes in the near future.  Any help is much appreciated.

Bonzai in Falls Church carries a really nice selection and is a good shop.

Unfortunately no one shop carries a lot of brands.

Contes - Specialized, Cervelo, Cannondale, others
Bonzai - Felt, (and others but I can't remember, it's been awhile since I have been there)
CycleLife - Specialized, Look, others
Spokes - Specialized, Trek?
Revolution - Trek, ?

And you will get a lot of opinions on the friendliness of staffs at each location, pretty much with every bike shop it's hit or miss.

I got my first road bike at Contes.  As far as my impression, their staff is mixed.  I was rather cautious, as I read online that they came off as elitist, but it wasn't bad.  Most of the guys are pretty helpful, laid back, and knowledgeable.  They definitely tried to over sell me (I was budgeting about 1.5k for the bike and the first thing he showed me was a 3k specialized frame), but you just gotta stick with what you want in those situations.

I'd give a nod to Bonzai... I got my bike there.  Good shop and a good group of folks.

As for brands, they have Felt, QR, Cervelo, Orbea, and Litespeed.

Bicycle Outfitters in Leesburg is your closest choice.  They carry FELT & TREK in Tribikes.

They are really nice, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced.  It is on your way to the other shops, which are also very good.

Had a different--and not good-experience buying a bike from Bonzai. If you know exactly what you need, and don't have to rely on them for fit/size, you'll do OK. But watch out otherwise.

What happen? I just picked up a 2011 Felt F75 from them over the weekend. I haven't taken delivery, but they seemed to be very knowledgable, and also knew a lot about fit? Or am I wrong?

I actually drove from Williamsburg to get a bike from Bonzi. I had a great experience and a guy(can't rem his name) really took the time to fit me properly. He has worked with a few pros. Got a Felt and at a really great price!

I was a real newb when I bought the bike and didn't know what constituted a proper fit. Their "expert" sold me a bike that was too big. Struggled with it ever since.

Also did a bait and switch on me claiming the only difference was the color of the paint--NOT as I found out later.

Like I said you can pretty much get very good and very bad reviews for any shops.

I haven't had the best experience with Bonzai either, I dealt with a couple of rude sales guys at one point, but know others that haven't had that problem.

I had a friend that went into Conte's in Arlington with money in pocket to buy a bike and not a single person talked to her, so she left and went somewhere else.  Though I know a bunch of the guys and girls that work there and haven't had that problem at all, and I know that's not what they want to have happen when people walk in but sometimes it does happen.

If that's who I think it is, that person no longer works there. There also used to be a holier than thou feeling in the store that's gone now. I've come to like TriBonzai in the past six months to year.

Conti's has never appealed to me. Bought a set of wheels from them and even that was like pulling teeth. I doubt I'll go back for much of anything. I have to say they do have a hell of a selection of chamois creams, tools and whatnot, though. They're the ones with the attitude that TriBonzai used to have.

Thank you all for your input.  It is much appreciated.  There just isn't much of a selection where I live.  Oh well.

Bicycle Outfitters in Leesburg has been good to me.  I have gone in there with questions and knowing that i had no plans on buying the bike any time soon they still spent 30 minutes talking to me about my options.

If you're in Winchester it might be worth your while to go south on Rt 29 to BikeStop in Culpepper. They rock!

I've picked up race packets at Bicycle Outfitters and BikeStop and they looked like nice stores.  I think they will certainly be stops for me in the future.  I guess I thought there would be some sort of tri bike mecca (that I was unaware of) in NoVA since the sport is so popular in that area.  Again, I appreciate the input.

Tell them at Bicycle Outfitters that Mike the golf professional sent you.  They might throw you out, or they might give you a little extra TLC.

Thanks, I'll risk getting thrown out for a chance at better personal service.  My experience w/ those types of places (outdoor recreation related) is that they are either really cool and educate you or they are snobs and snicker at your ignorance.

Find out when Rick is working.  He has an encyclopedic knowledge of bikes and components.  And he is totally friendly.

BTW, they have a very rare B10 Size 54 in stock.
