I think I'm going to try the mile, and MAYBE follow it up with a 400. It's $19 to pre-register and $25 at the door - then you can race as many events as you want. It's at the Bethel indoor track in the northern suburbs. Here's a link:

Maybe see another BTer there?....

They run a few waves of the mile (2 or 3). I've been in the fast wave, and that's had like 8-10 people in it. The slower wave (in the past) had around 15 people in it. It's plenty, but not TOO crowded.

And I'd LOVE to PR in the mile, but I don't know what sort of shape I'm in to run a SHORT race like that. I ran a 4:54.6 for the mile at one of these indoor events 2 years ago, and that's the last I've done anything so short and hard. I'm shooting for faster than that, but we'll see....

UPDATE: The meet was run VERY well. They had 3 heats of the mile with 10, 10, and 9 runners. A few races (like the 200) had 5 heats. LOTS of heats when needed, and very professional "photo-timing." (I don't know the name of the equipment, but its where they have a sensor on the timing gun and a camera across the finish line to mark the body position of the runner, and the software gives you a time accurate to the hundredth of a second.)

I helped count laps for the "race-walk mile," and some high-schoolers hopped in and tried it out. Someone in the race-walking world joined them to give them pointers as they were doing it. Fun times.

With all these events and all these heats, the meet was still wrapping up in just over 2 hours. They kept things moving and "official," but it was still low-key and fun. All abilities - the mile had times from 4:45 to 9:15. The 400 had times from 53.8 to 2:01. There are 3 more this winter - let me know if you're thinking about doing one - I just might work another one into my training.
