Traffic won't be bad. Parking is a little ways out but they will offer a shuttle service. Steelhead is a long narrow transition, so your family will be able to watch you come in and yell to you during your T 1 and 2. In case I miss any o you first timer HIM'rs - best wishes for your race! Live up the moment that you've been training for and enjoy every minute of it! When you hit the finish line, smile pretty and let the excitement settle in. It'll become more and more surreal every minute after the race. Any unanswered questions lingering out there?Jon, is your wife hanging out for the race?

Thanks Jhag. First timer here with lots of questions! Hopefully the 2 hour scheduled athlete race briefing will shed additional light on things!

Yes, my wife will be there!  I will PM you her number if you want to meet up.

The Race briefing should not be 2 hours, i think it lasts like 20 minutes plus a Q&A.  The biggest thing they talk about seems to be penalties (Drafting, littering, etc) and the routes.  The biggest question will be water temp/wetsuit legal?

Oh, and WTC has a strange rule that all participants (male and female) must always have there nipples covered... obvious for females, but than means that you must were a shirt, covering your nipples at all times, EXCEPT for the swim, for males!  (I dont think this is a USAT rule).

If any of you want your family to have a place/person to meet up with, PM me and I'll give you my phone number. I deally I'll have my tent set up at the final run chute which is at the far end of transition. You can tell your families to meet you there. It's normally a hassle at the actual finish line and can take several minutes to cool off before you're ready for that hug. So if you want to tell them that you'll meet them at the tent, I'll be there. But I'm only sticking around till about 1 or 2, just FYI.

Although my goal is simply to finish.  I am planning on 6.5 to 7 hours.  That won't put me back until 3:05 to 3:35.

We may be finishing together!

Oh, and the weather forecast has taken a turn for the worse. T-Storms sat and possible rain on sun now

Rain or shine, at least it's not going to be 95* and humid :-)

Maybe my 8:30 start time will pay off after all!

To be honest, I love exercising in the rain. It's like swimming ... you don't even know you're hot.

Don't forget plastic bags for your shoes :-)

Last year it rained, and my 8:49 wave was a godsend since it stopped raining minutes before my wave.... then again, it was humid by the time I hit my run.

They say no bike bags in transition, but if you use garbage bags and not take up unnecessary space, then you should be ok to cover you drive train, seat, and cockpit.

For those who want a central place to hang out (or rather your families) my tent will be somewhere along the final run chute to the finish. Though I prefer to be at the entrance, at the end of transition. I'll be wearing a Team Motiv8 shirt and have my banner at my tent. So what's my logo? Team-Motiv8.com and you'll see it on the top of the page. Hope to see you all there! Enjoy your race!

Well... had a short (2mi) run this morning then I went and checked in. No lines at all! Took about 10 minutes (80 minute drive though ).

Swag includes a tech tee and a running hat (both white)

Also went and got all of my nutrition for the race and picked up my bike from the LBS (tune-up). I think im ready to go.

Starting to get really nervous!!!

I just looked at the forecast for tomorrow....chance of rain, with high winds 15 to 25mph. There is also a rip current warning. Just in case the forecast stays like this for tomorrow morning, I would start mentally preparing to race a duathlon tomorrow. A few years back, the forecast was similar, and they had to turn the race into a run-bike-run because they couldn't get the kayakers in the water. I really really want to swim, but especially after 2 people dying in NYC, RDs are going to be even more on edge.

Have a great race everyone!!

If it became a du, how long would the first run leg be?

I'm praying for things to clear up, I'd love to do the tri.  Especially, for my first 70.3.

In an unfortunate turn of events (nothing bad, no worries) I will not be coming to the race site tomorrow.  I apologize but wish you all a great race!  You've trained well and tomorrow you execute!  I look forward to reading many great race reports!!

It still counts as a HIM without the swim right?

Im counting it! Got through it without too much difficulty other than sore knees (and a slow arse run).

Finally got to meet a BTer irl also (rubeone). We chatted for a bit before the race and it really helped the nerves. Thanks Rube!

I'm counting it too! Although, I wish we had swam (just not in that water). It was great to meet and talk to you too Rick. It's funny when you had said we might be finishing the race together. Get this. We both had the exact same total time.
