My son lives in Renton and I'll be visiting 12/26--30.  Any BT'ers interested in showing an old, slow, guy some of your favorite running routes, I'll be looking for runs between 4 and maybe 13 miles (road or trail).

Any place offer inexpensive day-passes for swimming?

I haven't run in the Renton area but a few come to mind. There's the Cedar River Trail, Green River, Alki Beach (West Seattle). I'll be running the Foothills, here in Puyallup. From Orting to South Prairie it's pretty nice. You're sure welcome to join another old slow guy. Bring your rain run stuff.Edit, forgot to mention the Y has guest passes and Foster HS pool in Tukwila has public lap swims pretty cheap.

my recommendation would be cedar river trail or alki, cedar river will be closer to Renton. For places to swim you could hit up the Rainier Beach Community Center pool, just a few miles down Rainier ave. Good pool, decent hours, but not really that cheap. If you are a Y member that might be your best bet. I won't be around to run with but hope you enjoy your time here. Supposed to be wet but not pouring according to the weather I heard this morning.

Coulan Park is in Renton.  I don't remember the exact layout of the park but you can probably find some jogging paths around there.

Thanks!  Still sorting out some plans, but I'll definitely need to burn off a few holiday calories.

Cedar River Trail runs from Lake Washington across the river from the Renton airport (not a cpmmercial transit airport, but they fly 737's off the assembly line to Seattle Field from there) all the way into Maple Valley and beyond. How long you wanna go?

Lake Washington Blvd runs north along the lake from Coulon Park, and there are connecting trails and back roads all the way into Bellevue.

Coal Creek Park has off-road trails.

There are still greenways and some nice (though compacted into a small area) MTB trails near Phillip Arnold Park, up the hill in Southeast Renton.

And if you want to go towards Southcenter (Tukwilla), there's a network of trails that connect there and go south through Kent, north towards Boeing Field, and west into... not sure where all that one goes. These are all paved.

Hope that helps.

Cedar River trail is paved, long and flat.  Lake Youngs trail is 9 miles all the way around and 100% trail. Great place for a run, so peaceful and quiet too.

Sorry both of those places are in Renton. There's also Cougar Mtn too, great for trail running but oh so easy to get lost if you don't know the way, but again, gorgeous.  They do have maps at the trail head.   I could take you to Tukwila pool if you'd like. I'm off most of next week.  Just let me know, it's not a problem.

Made it out with only a little drama (overbooked flight from Chicago to Seattle).

Got a short run in this morning in Renton and we got out to Snoqualmie Falls and then Cougar Mountain between raindrops.

Brought jammers and goggles to swim and both Renton and Tukwila have lap swimming in the mornings.

Probable meet-up with LKC01234 and briderdt Tuesday evening.  Not sure when or where and we can make it a larger gathering if someone has some suggestions.  Triathlynne?  Medusa Ann?  Oldred?

I am game for a Tuesday meetup..... any location is fine, I am portable!  We could do a group workout or we could just have dinner or drinks.....again, I just enjoy hanging with like-minded folks!  Not sure what your timeline is on Tuesday, but what about an afternoon run (distance?) and ez dinner?  Cedar River trail might be a nice run if the weather isn't horrible.  Of course....other ideas welcomed!  I could also do a morning swim and brunch.  See how flexible I am?  LOL

A timed out-and-back on the Cedar River trail would work, then dinner at Renton Landing?

I'm planning on hitting the Tukwila pool EARLY tomorrow like just after 6am. I'd also like to do a short run too before lunch!  If anyone wants to join (yes I know it's early) just let me know.  It's really easy to find of off I-5.

I just created a route with a starting point just outside of Renton (where there's a river crossing to the trail and a decent parking lot). I mapped out the first 2 miles on the trail as well, though it could be extended quite a ways.

Whaddaya think?

Anyone want to pin down a time? And thinking maybe 40 minutes (20 out, 20 back)?

Looks good! Its best to park in the community center lot, the one under the bridge fills up because of the dog park.

I'm leaning towards late afternoon, like 3:30? I know I don't have to work this week, but others may be working... That would still make an early dinner afterwards.

Not sure what Lisa will feel up to though... She flies in at almost midnight, and she's been fighting a cold all weekend.

Yes. It's by the outdoor pool and baseball fields. The trailhead is a short walk across a bridge. Is this meet up tomorrow or Wednesday? I notice the date on the route is 12/29
