I'm looking for recommendations on a good Olympic distance race in Quebec.  I've been reading about the Esprit Triathlon which seems like a great race.  Anyone have any other races they'd recommend for a tourist?

What time of year ?

Esprit is fast. You bike on the formula 1 track, swim in the olympic rowing bassin and run on a pancake flat course.

It's the weekend of the pro-tour so you can see the best cyclists in the world the day after.

At the beginning of season, Mt-Tremblant is a nice one in my opinion (1.5hrs North). Valleyfield (August) has a good swim and run, bike is not so great. (40 minutes east).

Thanks for the info.  The one in Montreal does look real fast but I have another in Maine that same day.  I will get up there, though, within the next few years for that one.

The other two look good but Valleyfield may fit better into my schedule.  Just curious, what's the issue with the bike?

The bike course is pretty flat, but like the roads are on the rough side. Not terrible, rather typical of Quebec roads. Esprit and Tremblant are on car racing tracks. Valleyfield is a 5km loop if I remember well.

Overral I would say Valleyfield is a nice course.

The swim is in a large bay and the water is pretty clear.  I found it very nice. Almost too nice, I was so relaxed looking at the underwater plants, forgot to move my butt.

The run is along a bike/walk path.

I did the Oly 2 years ago and the sprint this year. Same course just double the loops

This web site has all the quebec events. It's in french, but you can probably figure it out
http://www.triathlonquebec.org/evenement_liste.asp

There is a drop down called "Epreuve", select Olympique and you will get all events. The closest other is Drummondville, about 1.5 hours East of Montreal. The rest are kind of far.

There is also Soulanges, but the swim in that one is kind of gross in my opinion.

Gatineau is next to Ottawa, 2hours west of Mtl.

Went to the website and it's not too hard to figure out.  one questions about the triathlons, though.  Are they all draft legal?

Not for adults.

There are some draft legal races for under 17 or 16, not sure what the cutoff is
