Dinner at Salute sounds great. You might want to bump it up a few more, I didn't see Ashleigh and her family on the list.  That would add 3 which puts us close to 20.  Thanks again for coordinating this.

Just saw this on the Racine site:

Just got word that two-time Hawaiian Ironman Champion, Craig Alexander from Sydney, Australia has entered Ironman 70.3 Racine. He won the race in 2005 and in 2010. Come see him and 2,200 of the world best athletes on Sunday at North Beach. Swim starts at 7 a.m

hmmm... now there is conflicting info..nevermind.

Nice, funny last year when he ws checking his bike in on race morning the local racine resident who was doing T1 security,h checked for his race band toverify e could enter. As some people gasped, as if.., he kindly showed the guy his bracelet and went as if he was entry 1798 instead of number 1. Also post race he was taking pictures and cheering those coming still coming in hours after his finish.

It would be super convenient for him to hop on over to Racine since he's in Chicago already anyway.  I've never raced an event where a Kona champ was racing.

It would be cool even if he just came to cheer us all on!

The topic has been covered , but thought I share this as well

From Sharone at Well-Fit Triathlon and Training, Inc.

  • Start your day with a big glass of water and a serving of electrolytes. You can use ZYM or one serving of Thermolytes.
  • Have a water bottle with you at all times.
  • Throughout the two days leading to the race alternate drinking between water, sports drink and an electrolyte and water mix.
  • Stop drinking when you start visiting the bathroom too often. When you go to the bathroom often you actually depleting your electrolyte storage.
  • Do not worry about taking too much electrolytes. As long as you take it with liquids you should be fine and if you take more than the body needs the body will extract the access naturally.
  • Race morning drink a glass of water with electrolytes when you get up and another dose of electrolytes 30 minutes before your race start.
  • Have another mix of water/sports drink and electrolyte and sip it during the time between breakfast and 30 minutes before race start.
  • During the race take a dose of electrolyte during the first two miles on the bike and than 300 to 600ml every hour on the bike and the same on the run, always with liquids
  • Try and consume a minimum of one full bottle of liquids on the bike and start your run with a good dose of liquids before taking off.
  • Always carry more electrolytes than you need and make sure you store it in more than one container. We all have a tendency to drop/forget the electrolyte at some point during the race and having extras never hurt. In addition, you can fight muscle spasm with consuming an additional dose of electrolytes when you feel it coming regardless of your electrolyte schedule.

Although the amounts of electrolytes need vary from one person to another, starting with the protocol suggested above will help you hydrate and fight the many symptoms that will slow you down.

What's an electrolyte?

Hey Hey, Runners High and Tri!! I've been there! Mark is a really nice guy. He found out that I listen to the Age Grouper podcast and he started showing me all his old medals from IM's and such. It was an awesome experience! Love that place!

And thanks, again, Anne! I think I'm bound to be left out of this dinner one way or another! lol jk, that's the least of my worries!

Looks like the Racine RD is really getting prepared for the hot weather.  Article.  Glad to see it--ice down the shirt is a lifesaver. I still plan to carry my Fuel Belt and take extra salt caps.

I won't be at dinner, but hope to connect with some of you after the race!  Be safe.

totally! I love that store... though I don't care for one of the ladies who works there, but Mark is great! They hosted a little Q&A when Chrissy Wellington was in town a few months back and it was so good to get to meet her... she is SUCH a tiny thing!

I have never listened to the age grouper podcast but will for sure check it out now

I second that question!

Also, race day parking. Any tips on where to park in addition to the sites mentioned in the Guide? And how quickly do those fill up?

The festival hall, where you check in on Saturday, is south of the transition area.  Kinda silly, you check in to get race packet and then you have to check your bike in at transition about a mile or 2 north of there.  Last year there was a huge lot about 1/4 south of the transition that I parked in.  I dont think you had to pay.  It filled up, but at 530 or whatever there was no problem.  There was also a fair amount of parking on some of the side streets around transition.

Swim start is 1.2 miles from transition and I dont know about parking up there. So if you park by transition, theres no way to avoid the walk.  Personally, I would park nearer transition and finish than nearer the start.  After finishing race, I would not want to walk another mile or so back to my car.

I thought if I procrastinated posting in this thread I could pretend that I'm not actually doing this and be able to avoid the panic attack over why on earth I'm doing this.  Note to self: that's a dumb plan.  Somehow this taper matched up with that time of the month and I'm a basket case.

I'm debating switching hotels and I'm not sure how crazy that is given that I'm already a nutjob.  I have a reservation at what might possibly be the crappiest motel in Racine (Riverside Inn) due to the aforementioned procrastination.  So what's better the night before a big race, staying in a dump where your nerves keep you tossing and turning for an extra half hour because you're closer to the start or staying at a nice place where your nerves keep you tossing and turning then having to drive half an hour to the race?  IE, should I stick with my current reservation or switch to someplace in Pleasant Prairie or by the airport?

And am I too late to get in on dinner tomorrow night?  Hey, at least I registered for the race on time.

I was calm until I read your post, Allison Goodness, girl, you'll be fine!!!

I'm staying at the Comfort Suites by Milwaukee Airport, so I'm 20 miles from Racine myself... if you decide to switch hotels and want to go north (i know it's very counter-productive, but by the time I decided on a hotel, that was all that was left with my DH's points), come stay at CS! We can be wrecks together!! heheh

Yes I can include you for dinnet tomorrow night, I'm adding a couple more to the reservation today as well. As for the hotel I would go by the airport, if you know where you are going 30 minutes by car is not bad. I lived in downtown Milwaukee last year and had plenty of time. Tonight is the key night for sleep anyway, which, is why I am babysitting!

Good Luck Everyone!!! I'll be out there suffering with you all...  and Craig Alexander.

It seems as though every time there's a hot race, a Kona champ shows up. Chrissie Wellington was present when I melted in Kansas last year.

Good times. Kiss

If you see me, say hello! I know some of you, but not all of you, so if I see you, I'll stop ya. Don't know what time we're getting into town, but I think we are planning on a little OWS tomorrow after (or maybe before?) we check in the bikes. Hoping for a huge expo because I'd like to buy some new goggles.

FWIW, Allison, we are staying @ the STAYBRIDGE Suites up by the airport. In a town called Franklin (or Franklinville?) Looks nice. I'd rather stay someplace nice that's a little further away... but that's just personal preference...

Stay hydrated. Follow your nutrition plan. If it's hot, slow it down a bit on the run. Other than that, have fun!!!! See you there!
