Oh.. and joeinco gets the dollar. While there is no actual "separation of church and state" in the Constitution, It was developed from the First line of teh First Amendment. Please note that it says, "respecting an establishment of religion" then says, "or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. " These people recognized the polarity and issues a state run, forced religion would cause and sustain.
Joe also gets the 10th amendment thing too. States had rights. Massachusetts actually had Catholocism as a state religion well into the 20th century. Those Damn Kennedy's! Just joking. It was great to hear (read) everybody's side. There are some down to earth, calm people in this topic.

run4yrlif - 2005-08-05 8:32 AM  WRONG! The nation was founded by a body of very devout Christians. Religion then was quite a different animal then than it is now. There was something wrong with you if you didn't go to church on Sunday, now we watch football on Sunday morning without worrying if we will have a job on Monday because we didn't go to church. You are being dismissive if you think that religion then was not a VERY big deal. A perfect example would be the Mormon plight. Don't be a revisionist. The fact is, religion is falling out of favor with Americans (which is only natural).

I'm not arguing whether they were devout Christians or not. I'm sure they were. My point is that, having come from an the opressive theocracy that was England at the time, they understood the dangers of creating another one.

The Christian right wants so badly for us to become a theocracy (whether the admit it or not). Yet we see such wrongness in the Islamic theocracies in the Middle East, and what becomes of them.

No, that just explains the whole "this is your brain on drugs" commercial with the fried egg.

    Over my dead body.

    Thomas Jefferson:

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

"What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance?"

The forgotten ones? The ones whose names you can't remember or take the trouble to recall?

The ones we remember are the ones who constructed the framework for our Jeffersonian Democracy.

Richard Berry sold the rights to the song so he could pay for his daughter's wedding.  Unfortunate choice, but we have to live with our mistakes.

But he might get a dollar from this forum if he's a constitutional expert.

Sorry. Evolution ain't science either. The theory of evolution violates both the first and second law of thermodynamics. There are so many holes in the theory. There are many credible scientists that discount evolution but they don't get a hearing, because evolution has become "truth". Belief in the theory of evolution is a religion, just like belief in the theory of creation. Science = formulating theories based on observation and testing. There is no scientific basis that life can be created from nothing, or non-life.

Evolutionists and creationists both have a right their own beliefs. If creationism shouldn't be taught in science class, neither should the thory of evolution.

Since it shouldn't be taught since it's only a theory, should we stop teaching the theory of relativity and the theory of gravity in science too? Maybe we should teach it in art class?
