Subject: Looking for a July-ish HIM in the South East

I will be training for IMWI this year and looking to do a HIM in July. Anyone know of anything in the South East? I know Rhode Island, Racine, Portland (Rev 3) and Vineman are all in July but I'd prefer something closer (i.e. driving distance) to cut down on costs. Anyone have any suggestions? A small, locally organized race would be fine.

Check setupevents.com. I'm not aware of any Half's in July. July's a pretty brutal month in the southeast as far as heat, so it would make for a very tough race. So there may not be many, if any options.

I think the the Rock N Roll 1/2 in June is about it for that time of the year, which is in Macon. It's brutal in the SE that time of the year.

Have you tried the search function here on the BT website? You can specify a date and search within certain radius distance of a particular location (e.g. within 500 miles of an Atlanta zip code).

The Rock-n-Rollman in Macon in June (RD is Georgia Multisport Productions) is the closest to July. It is usually ridiculously hot here during July and August, so that is why there aren't many long-course events.

I am doing IMWI this year also and am trying to decide between the Beast of the East HIM in Hiawassee (hilly) on May 22, Gulf Coast HIM (flat) in Panama City Beach on May 5 or the Rev 3 Knoxvillle on the weekend between the other two.

There a couple of other places to check - Set-Up Events (as the other poster mentioned), or DRC Sports.

That's what I was thinking! Here in SC I have a treadmill for July and August, not for the winter months, haha

. I think someone suggested setup events already, that would be my first go-to. Good luck!!

As suggested, there is a reason that there aren't many HIMs in the southeast in July. Conditions are brutal. Setup tried moving the SC Half to August this year and they learned their lesson. They moved it back to October for next year. People don't want to race that distance when it is 100 degrees with 95 percent humidity. Go figure.
