Subject: Bike??
Hi,

I'm a noob. What would you recommend for a bike for first tri training?

I've seen this one on Amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Infinity-Tri-Pro-2010-Triathlon-Road/dp/B003SERAPS/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=IG4L326EX52UH&colid=2VJESS23LKPID

Infiniti Tri Pro 2010 @ around £350

Thoughts? Too much/little?

Graham from London

Personally I would spend your cash on a road bike for that price. You would get better spec for your money and it will be more suitable for group training rides than a tri-specific one. You can always add tri-bars to allow better aerodynamics. Having said that it is a good price and will be ok for a nice flat course

Thanks all for your feedback.
What kind of bikes do you guys ride?

What would you recommend for the £300/$500 range?

I've got a Dawes Giro 300 which was my first road bike and used in my first year of tri training. Fantastic bike and easily converts with the addition of aero bars. I think I've done 2000 - 3000 miles on her now and she's still going strong with no issues.

Oh and Dawes is a British make lol

I have a Ridley Cheetah tri bike which I got in the sale last year as my race bike
A Bianchi C2C Via Nirone road bike which I got in 2008 and used to use with tri bars fitted. It is £750 new for the 2010/2011 model but an excellent bike.
Also have a 1980's vintage Peugeot rode bike for the turbo trainer or occasional commutes which I got for a tenner from a scrap yard and fixed up.
I like riding all 3 and they each have their good and not so good points.

I have the same bike.
Recommended :D

Really isn't worth spending too much more on a first bike, you might not like it! And ordering over the internet is risky unless you have found the frame etc from another shop.

I'm no expert on the subject, but have just bought a new bike myself. I watched some triathlons on TV and even some world class folks (Brownlee, Gomez etc) are using 'regular' road bikes rather than 'triathlon' bikes, so I decided to go with a regular road bike.

I got a GT - last years model and colours for about 35% off. Well worth looking for last years bikes. Fit is very important - one make of 56cm frame may be a different size to another make of 56cm frame - so you do need to sit on some bikes. ALso, buying off the web, you may need to do some assembly of the bike when it arrives.

There's a range of budgets covered in the links below, but some examples of what's available at some pretty good discounts:

GT

Dawes that others mantioned

Other makes such as Giant and Specialized have good reputations too:

Good hunting
