Overall Rank = 587/700
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 59/60
Pre-race routine:

I needed air in my tires so I had to find the guys from the bike shop and use their pump, thank goodness they were there. I did not plan my breakfast very well so all I had was two oatmeal pies with Gatorade and water.
Event warmup:

Event start was delayed by half an hour as they had to change the swim course due to shallow water in the lagoon were it was scheduled. This meant we had to swim from the beach to a buoy then turn and go parallel to the shore before coming in to the beach, then crossing the beach and running across the water in the lagoon before running to the transition area. My walk to the swim start with some lite jogging and stretching was my warmup.
Swim
  • 08m 1s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was pretty happy with my swim. It got a little crowded at the first marker, after that I was able to get in a good rhythm.
What would you do differently?:

not start in the middle of the pack so i could get some space to work in a bit sooner.
Transition 1
  • 04m 20s
Comments:

tired tired tired. after the swim and the jog to the transition area i needed to go slow and catch my breath.
What would you do differently?:

move faster
Bike
  • 32m 43s
  • 10 miles
  • 18.34 mile/hr
Comments:

i was pretty satisfied with my ride. eventually i will go faster but i was able to pass some people, which i was not able to do last year on my Mt bike. a very nice fellow athlete gave some good advice to go into a higher gear, which i really appreciated.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

Drank gatorade and poored water on myself. I forgot my race number so i had to turn around and get it.
What would you do differently?:

drink less.
Run
  • 39m 30s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 12m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

I drank to much and two minutes into it i wanted to puke and pee, which i did the latter (is that a rules violation?) at the turn around i poured water on my face and then i ran into the sand. i stopped running because it was painful and i was struggling with the heat. i walked and jogged the rest of the way. i wanted to finish strong so i ran hard the last half mile. heat was sucking the life out of me and my head felt like it was in an oven.
What would you do differently?:

not do an event in florida in august. Did i mention it was HOT and HUMID?
Post race
Warm down:

DRINK water and sit in front of misting fan. rest on grass. avoid vomiting. later i got to enjoy the post race food but it took a while before i could consider eating anything

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat. it was freaking hot, i can't stress that enough.

Event comments:

This was my second tri. i acheived my goal of beating my time from last year in the same event by 13 minutes. The heat was tough, i think they needed more aid stations on the run portion. other then that it was great.

Good job.  I did Suncoast at Fort Desoto last year.  the run SUCKED.  I don't think I will ever do another event there.  I also hated that you had to run about a half mile to T1.  Good job gutting it out tho esp in the heat -SMO
