Pre-race routine:

Woke up early, showered, oatmeal & fresh OJ for breakfast, loaded the car and paced to get rid of some nervous energy.
Event warmup:

stretching, light running
Swim
  • 19m
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

It was my first race, I was pleased with it, was worried about the temp. but it was ok without a wetsuit. I would do it again without a wetsuit definitely had a faster transition then many because of this.
What would you do differently?:

Will continue to train hard. Need to improve my navigation a little kept hitting the girl infront and am sure it annoyed her.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition went well. Didn't time it but felt faster then others. Had to be a little careful as it was slippery due to the rain and didn't want to get mud stuck in my cleats.
What would you do differently?:

practice!! Would like to practice the shoes in the pedals but will probably take some time to master that.
Bike
  • 45m
  • 20 kms
  • 26.67 km/hr
Comments:

The rain and wind was a real drag. Literally!! It was a tough bike ride. I was expecting some tailwind on the return leg, but never got it, it was wind headon or from the side the whole way. It was a tough bike ride so am very pleased with the time given the conditions. I could already feel a stitch in my side, which followed me into the run.
What would you do differently?:

continue training.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Not sure of the times, it was wet and slippery, so needed to take care, saw a lot of people fall during the bike leg.
What would you do differently?:

train more on the riding with feet on shoes, that would save a great deal of time and I would have to worry about trucking through the transition area in bike shoes.
Run
  • 35m
  • 5 kms
  • 07m  min/km
Comments:

Run was by far the worst!! The stitch from the bike ride followed me to the run, the cramp was so bad that I had to walk it off the first 1.5k. Tried to pace up my run but was just to painful. Was finally able to get into somewhat of a stride last 3km's but it was a slow stride.
What would you do differently?:

Train, train, train
Post race
Warm down:

some stretching, drinking and chatting with fellow triers

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The cramp in my side, techniqe in the swim, but given that this is my first I thought it was pretty damn good!
