  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Started out too fast. Had a tough time through the first mile and then calmed down to run my own pace. Had a gel pack going into T1.
What would you do differently?:

Run at my own pace - I tried to keep up with the pack when I knew that wasn't possible.
Transition 1
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Wore a hydration pack and had trouble getting it positioned properly. All in all though, I was happy with transition. I wore running shoes on bike and did not have to spend the time changing.
What would you do differently?:

Overall smoother transition - I did everything I wanted to do, I just needed to do it with less fumbling (Gloves, helmet, hydration pack)
Bike
  • 51m 27s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 14.50 mile/hr
Comments:

Still getting comfortable with the bike. Don't wear straps or clipless pedals - Although a friend gave my some straps to try, I still have the need to be able to put my feet on the ground at will. Had 2nd gel pack near the end of the bike portion so I could get good water intake with it. Had a couple of gear changes on the hills when the bike slipped to another gear, which was pretty disconcerning.
What would you do differently?:

Overall pretty happy with the bike. It was my fastest time one the course. I just need more hill work and more time overall on the bike to become more comfortable.
Transition 2
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

T-2 went well - had gloves off before going into transition. I usually fumble with them most. I walked through transition to catch my breath and get my legs before 2nd run.
Run
  • 39m 48s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

Walked a couple of segments. After a mile or so, finally got a pace going and was able to maintain it.
What would you do differently?:

I think I just need more miles and time on my feet. I don't know anything else that I can do to get faster and more comfortable.
Post race
Warm down:

Short walk and stretch. Had an excited family waiting for me that wouldn't be ignored!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Experience

Event comments:

What an awesome experience. Back in December I couldn't run 1/10th of a mile, so it is just a blast for me to be able to compete. Every time I wasn't sure what to do on the course, there was a volunteer telling me where to go. I was worried about competing at my skill level, but the encouragement and well wishes from other competitors was so encouraging and made the experience a terrific first race. Orgnaizers were also the best, answering all of my newbie questions with a smile and patience. Thanks everyone for a great race!
