This year this event is on the same day as Kansas 70.3 HIM.  I sent an email to Corp Challenge folks, got an email back from Chad at S.M. Parks and Rec. saying they can't change it.  Oh well, was looking forward to getting a few points for the company.

I was really looking forward to that Tri as it's pretty competitive, some fast guys in there last few years.

Hopefully the SM Tri doesn't get rained out again ....

My company needed a sacrifice, I mean volunteer.  This is my first tri.  I've been reading the posts about KCCC tr and the SMP tri.  Can you walk over to the beach starting area for the swim or do they require you to warm-up from the transition area by swimming to the starting beach? Just curious

Thanks!

I did this race in 2009, my first Tri, a great race for a first timer.

I was able to get a warm up swim in before the first wave started.  You enter the water at the boat launch (swim exit).  Looking at the attached map the beach is to the right of the boat launch.  You can also swim a little to the north of the beach area in that little cove if it's not too shallow while you're waiting for your wave.  Each wave will line up on the beach, then walk into the water for a wading start. That's how they did it in 2009, I doubt much has changed.

Unless you want to walk a mile out of your way you will need to swim from the marina parking lot to the swim start.  It's not bad.  Maybe 50 to 75 yards.  And more than likely the water will be warmer to sit in instead of standing on the beach.

Thanks guys!  Just nervous and not a strong swimmer..   I do see where the short cut across wouldn't be that bad.

Any idea about wetsuits? I know they announce at 6am but no clue historically what the water temp might be.  And no one seems to know at SMP when I ask them, even last night at OWS.  I'm hoping I get to use it but am planning for both scenarios.

I missed last year and won't be able to run it this year due to IM KS.

When I ran it in 2009 and 2008 it was westuit legal.

Bring your wetsuit and cross your fingers!
