Do you ever hop in the pool and swim much faster than normal?

This morning I swam a 9:00/500 meter.  I do 500 meter time trails almost every swim workout (which means at least one a week) and I am usually in the 9:30-9:40 range.  I figured I must have missed counted my laps and simply swam a 450m instead.

But on my subsequent 200 meter sets I was swimming each 200 at around 3:30.  And I was swimming in my board shorts because my jammers were dirty!

What gives?  The only thing I can think of was last night was the first night in a LONG time that I slept all the way through the night without my kids waking me up.

Does random speed jumps happen to anyone else?

Today was that day for me. I snuck in an extra lap or two in 30 minutes. I don't have a clue where they came from but the lap splits as I was going on say it was real and not a miscount.

Weird. Moon ascension or something like that, I'm sure.

I think somebody shortened the pool on you.

It happened to me once.  Turned out the pool clock was broken and running slow.

Yeah, I actually thought about this as sometimes they move the bulkhead to create a 25 yard pool instead of a 25 meter pool.  But I checked and it appeared to be normal.  Plus my stroke count was its normal amount.

That's a possibility, but its a digital clock with a seconds read out.  And its on a giant scoreboard-type display that they use for swim meets.  Probably not likely that the clock was slow.
