first ride w/ it - got a face full of water over minor bump then the hole cover netting thing popped out twice when I hit some other bumps (and I installed it w/ the bracket, not the rubber bands). Is this the way it's gonna be. Any tricks? Also, damn you gotta get low to get the straw. Is that how aero i really shoud be alll the time. all this cuz i was to cheap to buy the flatwing!

The good news is I went sockless for the first time and had no issues! woohoo T1 just improved!

If you knocked the cover netting out then you didn't have it pushed all the way inside because that thing has never so much as jostled loose on me, let alone fallen out. If I don't plan on refilling it at speed I usually use the regular screw-on lid. And the straw + extender should get it up reasonably high but you still should need to hunch down a bit, otherwise the straw will be poking you in the face the whole time.

Happy riding,

And Oh that's an extender? thot it was some mutant extra straw. guess I'll try that. this is why we try new thngs b4 the race huh? thnx again, Mark

I don't roll up the netting but just bunch it up and jam it inside. It's just supposed to reduce the sloshing a bit. It's not very effective, but I've learned to live with it. Also, I don't put anything but water in the aero bottle. I once used Gatorade and ended up with sticky handlebars, brake levers, arms, etc. from all the sloshing. Ditto to the other post on the straw...you want in just below your normal riding position so that it doesn't poke you, and you have to stretch just a bit to reach it.

I used mine in the recent IM and just grabbed fresh water bottles on the fly at the aid stations and poured the cold water in. Worked great, I wouldn't do without it for 1/2 IM's and up. For shorter races, I just remove the whole assembly. I slide mine in the mount that fits between my aero bars and just let it stay there without the additional use of the rubber bands.

I replaced the yellow netting with a shower poofy (sorry to use such technical language, see picture) which seems to fit in the bottle a lot better, doesn't unwind, and helps minimize splashing. Still, I use only water in the aerobottle to avoid the sticky situation max spoke of.

Oh yeah, not having the "mutant extra straw" would make it a whole lot tougher to drink out of. I didn't even know there was a "non-cover" option, but yeah without it there is a bit of sloshing. Like everyone said, going w/ water only is your best bet on that.

Yep, good call on practicing with all of it before hand. Don't be like me going without socks for the first time the day of the race.

And make sure you rinse the loofa out good in advance, eh

LOL! I'd spring for a new one...unless of course you actually like Dove-flavored Gatorade.

The really hilarious part is I can imagine the Bear having that .jpg file of the "poofy things" neatly stashed somewhere on his hard drive.

I looked for red, couldn't find it for anything. Had to settle for an attractive salmon pastel. I know, it's slowing me down, but it will have to do until I find a FAST one.

i found a bright yellow loofa @ wallyworld to go with my red bike equipped with my bright yellow handlebar tape, and bottle cages. What i did was just use my existing mesh from the bottle and cut my loofa in half and tie it up in knots and stick it in the existing hole from the PD mesh. not a single splash ever. dry as a arizona mid summers day.

I know it doesn't help the current bottle problems but I ordered one of the Sipaway set ups. I'm not sure how well it's going to work but it wasn't too expensive and I like the idea. Check out www.sipaway.com

I'm not peddling them, I just thought it was a good idea.

In the last race I did, I had problems with the aero bottle while I was breathing hard. The water goes through my nose! Then I am sniffing and breathing hard. This is the second time it has happened. This is not a good thing because in both races I have done this year, I have not gotten enough fluid through the bike part of the race. I think if the straw were not so big, I might not have this problem. I wonder if there is a way to get a smaller straw...just a thought.

Large Luffa does the trick. Dry as a bone. Now I can feel comfortable carrying sport drink in it.
