For all of you who have battled ITband, is it normal to have that lingering annoying discomfort, not even pain, when just sitting around, for example while driving/at work?

I don't feel it during runs.  I guess I am just paranoid that it is coming back?

I have been seeing a PT for muscle imbalances in my hips, been stretching, rolling etc...

Normal or not???

I do feel it sometimes up in my hip capsule--especially if I've been sitting a while or if I'm sitting crossed leg (like I have to do at work).

My pain around my knee I tend to feel after the run, but not as much during.

While driving yeah

I did find a solution to my IT band problems (other stretching).

I did everything i could to strengthen my outer hips, inner thigh/groin and my butt.     Every excercise i could find, i did, and it really helped.  Even those machines that i thought were 'silly' in the gym that are the ones that open your legs, close your legs.

YES!  While driving it hurts like a MF'r, but not all during a run.  I have to agree with the above post also.  Hit those hip machines.

There are better exercises then those "silly machines" that I would do IMO.  You can use cables or bands to work your adductors and abductors so much better.  I do feel my ITB when not running.  Usually if I stretch out my hips really well then it goes away.

I have used the bands as well and agree, but the "silly machines" do in a pinch.  I have also used ankle weights at times to do abductors and  adductors and found those to be of some help.

I've been seeing a physiotherapist for the past couple weeks to solve my IT band problems. He had me start using a band yesterday and has me doing the "monster walk" and a few other things to help with my muscle imbalance. I got up this morning and man did my left butt cheek hurt.

And yes, unless I do a long or hard run my IT band bothers me more when I don't run or when I don't keep my legs moving.

Mine irritates me the most when I am sitting at my desk in my dumb office chair. I can't find a chair that doesn't make it crazy. It is fine when I run. Cycling can irritate it some, especially on the trainer.

I am currently getting Graston ART therapy for it. It is much better now.

It has been over 1year and half since my last IT band flare up and it was a bad one, but even still now like others have mentioned after sitting cross legged or being in a car for a long time I really feel it.. I still stretch it out every single day before and after every run and feel much like you that it is coming back.. It hasn't.  I think if you just keep stretching it and listening to your body it will be o.k.  If it isn't I guess you have to cross that bridge when you get to it.. We as athletes hate anything that stands in our way but I think from our ups and downs we learn to pay greater attention to what our bodies tell us to do!  Enjoy your training and if it isn't bothering you aren't running I wouldn't worry to much it will rob you of your experience.

I've been hitting the 'monster walks' with the bands. Also if you use a machine you can do more the cable-kind with the ankle strap.

While driving sometimes I'll scrunch my leg up and put my foot on my seat (knee bent straight up) this seems to help. Granted, it's my left IT band. If it was my right, I'd be in trouble!

I always feel phantom pain/tightness on the outside of my quad just above my knee. I had a knot there when I first started PT for my IT band ...guess the pain just wants to stick around even though the knot is gone.

I only had the lingering pain when I actually had IT Band issues and before I had my IT Band release surgery.  After my surgery they went away.
