I know this question has never been asked...

I have a tri next week with a 100k bike. Should I man up and go with the tri shorts or be comfortable in the bike shorts. I have done sprints in the same shorts and they seemed to not be too water loged

DeSoto 400 mile shorts.  Good for both.

Tri shorts are made to do exactly this.

Have you actually done runs as long as the upcoming tri after sitting in the bathtub in your bike shorts? You might want to try that once or twice before thinking that's a good idea.

How long is the run? I assume, since the bike is 100k that the run must be pretty long as well?

Personally, I think I’d prefer to ride 100 km in tri-shorts rather than try to run a long distance in bike shorts. Running more than 10k in bike shorts sounds like a recipe for epic chafing.

Not to get all “judgy” on you, since I’m sure you had your reasons, but this is a good example of “nothing new on race day”. If you’d already tried riding 100k in your tri shorts or running the race distance in bike shorts in training, you’d already know the answer.

(edited to change m to km)

The harder you ride the less padding you seem to need. If you are wailing on it the entire way then tri shorts will work. If you're in the "touring class" go with a nice, comfy pad.

It's 100km. 62 miles. Use the tri shorts. That half-marathon in tri shorts will thank you.

Go with the tri shorts, assuming you are used to them.  I've ridden many centuries over the years & still dread mid-ride rain.  Too many good cycling shorts have a nasty habit of chafing me if they get soaking wet.  OTOH- Most good tri shorts are fine dripping wet (as in exiting the swim).

And has been said, running any distance in bike shorts can be crotch rot waiting to happen
