Subject: Sahuarita Lake Cancelled?

The Sahuarita Lake Triathlon (Tucson) is listed as cancelled.  Anyone know the story?

I thought it was a great event last year.

I think, and I could be totally wrong, but UA moved the 3 tri's they usually have there so the first one is in May instead of March and it was too close.  Plus there may (again, I could be wrong) some issues with the course/Rancho Sahuarita.  I think they are trying to get it together, but it may not be that weekend.

Makes you wonder if the Ph levels are not correct and the lake might not be safe to swim? Up here in Estrella we can't swim in our Lakes because of the Ph.

They should post the reason.

Pretty positive it doesn't have anything to do with the lake.  There are issues with the mine in the area, which means the course would have to be modified to go into Green Valley which obviously introduces other logistical issues.  The issue with the UA tri's compounds the problem (moving dates).

There is some discussion that it may be run in a different time of year.  If you want to encourage Rancho Sahuarita to keep the race, I'd suggest calling or mailing the club house.  It sounds as though some folks in the club house are moving a bit slowly.  There are people in Tucson who are willing to pick up the race, but nothing definite yet.

What, or who, is the "Club house"?

It has been a well run event in past years, and oddly, a surprisingly good OWS 1000m location (for Tucson).

The Rancho Sahuarita Club House:

Club Rancho Sahuarita

I don't know if this is the right person, but she may be able to help:
