I'll stay in for another month but I'm thinking it might be my last till October. I'm officially down 40.5 lbs. since Jan.1. This past week I lost 0.0lbs. At 6'1" and 204.5 I might be nearing the bottom end of my rapid weight loss success. I ran my first Sprint Tri this past weekend and finished with a 1:29:04. I've come away from it with some valuable lessons about where I am at in my training and nutrition. Mainly, more specific drills are necessary and step classes are not..lol and fueling (eating) properly to get the most out of my workouts. Sum it up: Train smarter, eat more. Anyways good luck this week and have fun, TTYL Glenn |

Makukula - Congratulations on the 20lbs! How did you do it, anything in particular that helped you? Thanks! Someone asked me that same question in another thread...this is what I said... Tracking, tracking, tracking. I have tracked EVERYTHING that I've eaten since January 3 :-) What did I do differently this time versus all the other times I "tracked" 1. Track everything and I mean, everything..that handful of almonds, that small bag of popcorn, those raisins that I used to top my oatmeal...everything!!! (I use sparkpeople.com and eat between 1300-1550 calories per day) 2. Track everyday, that includes Saturdays and Sundays (didnt do that before), that includes days I am not "good" (didnt do that before) 3.Stop eating out! We used to go out or eat out most nights of the week, since the beginning of the year, that has been reduced to only special occasions. When I eat out, choose a healthy recipe, its ALWAYS possible to find something that is a "healthier" but still tastey option. 4.Buy lots of delicious and healthy foods, I've switched to natural foods, organic foods, whole grains, plenty of fruits and vegetables. Ive tried to cut out most added sugar or refined foods. 5.Stop eating highly processed foods, I try to eat things as close to their natural form as possible. 6.Learn new recipes, bought a cookbook that includes nutrition information...found some key daily recipes that are healthy, delicious and quick...including a delicious and healthy pizza!! 7.Give up "trigger foods". For me, this has meant giving up cookies and chocolates. If I have one cookie, I must have five, if I have one piece of chocolate, I must have a king size bar of whatever. So I have cut them out completely!!! 8. Give myself one treat per day, after dinner. I ALWAYS have something sweet after dinner (see number 7) so instead of completley torturing myself I found something that I can enjoy but is a controlled portion (small cup of rice pudding or a granola bar with my tea does the trick) 9. Give up juices and sodas. I wasnt much of a soda drinker but I LOVE fruit juices, so I have cut them out completely. The only beverages I've had are water and tea (lots and lots of tea). 10. Follow my training plan :-) I think number 10 has been the least important so to say. I've always been fine with my workouts but my eating habits were always the issue. I will loosen up with my "rules" in time, but right now, I need this discipline as I re-learn portion sizes, re-learn that healthy eating can be delicious, and re-learn that I am not controlled by what I eat. What's been important for me is that I've replaced everything I've "given up" with something else. So overall, it doesnt feel like I've given up anything, I'm just making better choices :-) |

Regular 182 Bartow County, GA | Subject: RE: Team Skinny April 2011 ... April Showers wash away my Fat Hi Team! I'm new to BT and have 100+ lbs to lose. I'm currently training for an Olympic Tri in May and though I've lost 23 lbs so far, it's just not coming off very fast. I also have hypothyroid (newly diagnosed) and am still struggling to get it leveled off. I was only 40 lbs overweight when my thyroid went out and I gained 68 lbs in 6 months. Talk about devastating. In any case, I'm meeting with a nutritionist in the next few weeks and will hopefully have a good meal plan set for my workout needs. I'll also be meeting with a doctor every other week to keep track of my weight loss so that I have accountability. I look forward to joining the group and hope you all don't mind if I pop in every now and again until I finally get to set a meal plan and truly join the group. |

Veteran 369 Fairbanks | Subject: RE: Team Skinny April 2011 ... April Showers wash away my Fat Unfortunately, I did NOT get swimming the other night. I got to the pool and it was so crowded there were already two people in every lane, and three in some. I elected not to triple-up another lane, since it looked pretty miserable. Went for a long walk with my dog, instead. I am planning to focus on swimming at the beginning until I take some weight off, before trying to run. And I'll be biking as soon as the snow and ice melt! So the moral of the story is, leave work promptly on nights I'm going swimming, so I can get there early enough to grab a lane! |

April 1 - 343 (ouch) April 7 - 339 April Goal - 320 End Game - April 2012 - 230 (~10% body fat) Game on! Careful there jtbricker3, your plan to lose 19 pounds during the remaining 23 days is dangerous. Losing weight too quickly is dangerous. That is why sumo wrestlers often die early after they retire. The weight comes off so quickly when they stop eating a crazy amount and their body can't handle the stress. A safe goal would be 1 to 2 pounds per week. Half a pound per day at most. Good luck and keep up the good work. |

41 | Subject: RE: Team Skinny April 2011 ... April Showers wash away my Fat Hadamard, I hear you loud and clear. Unfortunatly, I have been in this position before, and in my past experience the first month I tend to lose a little more weight than normal. This is not something that I can keep up for a longer period of time. I do it the right way too. I watch what I eat but I by no means starve myself and I am a very active guy. I am active for at least 2 hours a day (6 days a week if not 7) whether I am training for a Tri or not. Ido appreciate the advise and if I can't maintain a health lifestyle and meet my gaols...well I tried my best and I will surely get there one day. ....And by the way...are you comparing me to a SUMO wrestler?!?! |

I on the other hand burn about 4000 calories in a day just by getting up and going to work. I try to eat about 2500 calories (check my logs) and I try burn at least 1500 calories. 2500-4000-1500=3000.....3500 cals + 1 pound...am i being unrealistic at my current weight really? |

My avatar is from college, I was like 20 pounds lighter back then. I don't have a lot to lose but I do want to get rid of my excess fat. I'm not comparing you to a sumo wrestler in size, just rate of weight loss. By the way another thing that is bad is yo-yo diets, and I am very guilty of that. Once a year I try to drop from 205 to 180 and make it to 190 and then give up and slowly gain back to 205. I hope this time with triathlon training I can reach my goal and stay there. |

41 | Subject: RE: Team Skinny April 2011 ... April Showers wash away my Fat While my weight does yo-yo too, but it is not for the same reason. I was very fit in high school and college as I was a high level athlete but a few injuries have stopped me in my tracks over the years. The first a sports injury and the latest a sports accident injuiry. ...and i know your were not really comparing me to a sumo wrestler...and you don't think they die early because they were so fat for so long? |
