completed my Open Water Diver scuba certification. Woot!!

Anyway, back from my tangent into vacation memories... I weighed in and am at 208 (started at 212). Probably not going to make my goal for April, but I'm pretty pleased with any loss during travel!

WOOOHOOOO Congrats on the certification. Diving has been a passion of mine for 18+ years well until I got into triathlons last year now I am trying to find balance.

Still a good loss with being on vacation and all... At least your warmed up and have a tan I am sure...

Good job.

April 1 - 343

April 7 - 339

April 13 -336

April 20 - 337

April 27 -338

Not really sure what is going on here. I have been eating about 1500-1800 calories and burning an averge of about 4000 for the past 2 weeks and still a GAIN!  Going to try going lighter on the carbs and haevier on the running...see if I can't pull of 1 pound before the end of april.

Are you getting enough sleep? If you aren't getting 8 hours of sleep a night, try increasing the amount of sleep you get. That will always help you.

Wow, it seems like a lot of people have hit a road block lately and either gained weight or stopped losing weight. Lets all be motivate to come back next week with some progress.

Can sleep really have that much of an effect on weight loss?  If so, I might be working against myself.  I work A LOT during the week (and some on the weekends).  I get to work at about 6:30am and I would be lucky to get all of my work done and be home by 7:30-8pm.  By the time I get home and eat dinner and have a little time with the wifey it is ~9:30.  Off to the gym and working out by 10, home by 12:30am and up again by 6am.  In my life that is a good nights sleep (~5 1/2 hours).  If I workout I can't sleep, if i sleep i can't workout....catch 22?

Are there any insights you all have to offer on this?

Thanks, on both counts! For me (and for Fairbanks) I am exceptionally tan at the moment!! I'm going to the dive shop on Monday to find out what comes next. I'm hooked (as if I needed another expensive hobby...)!!

Not an expert, so grain of salt here, but yes, sleep is very important to overall health and to weight-loss, specifically. Not getting enough sleep affects your body in numerous ways, including lowering both your energy and metabolism. Your body is more prone to holding onto fat stores when it's not well-rested, so it could definitely factor in to why you're having trouble losing weight.

I've had some health problems over the past couple of years, which I'm now close to straightening out, but one of the major issues I was having was that even though I was getting enough hours of sleep, I was not well-rested. I put on a lot of weight, and regardless of diet and exercise I could not get the scale to go in the reverse direction. Now that I am actually getting quality rest during the hours I sleep, I've stopped gaining weight and am starting to be able to lose it, as well (diet and exercise dependent, of course!!).

This is a brief synopsis of a many-layered scenario, but the short answer is YES, lack of sleep could definitely have a major impact on weight loss.

Took the week off from heavy training and was a bit more liberal with the eating. I just needed a break and am happy (and a bit surprised) that I pretty much maintained my weight. Looking forward to May and getting into the 140s :-)
