Member 39 | Subject: RE: Ironman Bike Pad, 140.6 Finishers Only I double down. I had my tri shorts on underneath of my wetsuit and in T1 I pulled on my bike shorts over the tri shorts. Plus I applied a ton of booty cream. Worked like a charm. |

If that is what you normally run in, than I guess that's ok but I run in running shorts. They are much cooler and more comfortable than tri shorts. IMO it is well worth the investment of the 20 seconds it takes to change from bikng shorts (or tri shorts) into running short. I also swam in jammers. I had to change to biking shorts in T1 but I had to grease up the goods anyway so stipped the jammers for biking shorts.
Wait so you strip off your bike shorts and put on running shorts in T2? So do you wear anything under your tri shorts so you arent "exposed" to God and Country? |

In my last IM, I changed into running shorts from my tri shorts during T2 for the start of the marathon run. I regretted it after the first 6 miles because they got too wet and became uncomfortable from being wet - I didn't have that problem when I ran in tri shorts. Plus, the slight compression would've helped my thighs if I would have worn the tri shorts. |

Elite 3090 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Bike Pad, 140.6 Finishers Only I wore bike shorts and did the bike on a road bike. Changed out of the bike shorts and into a jammer for the run. And yes, I often will run in a jammer during training--they do a great job preventing chafing and are less "underwear-like" than compression shorts so I don't feel self-conscious running in them. |

Heck, my wife raced world long course in 2007 (half-iron) on zero chamois. Didn't mind a bit. She also does IM on tri chamois. |

Nope, Naked as a jaybird. You have to lose a little modesty during an IM. Greasing up the family jewels in the tent is pretty common.

Champion 5781 Northridge, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Bike Pad, 140.6 Finishers Only Same for me as others have said: Longer the ride, less chamois I seem to want/need. After a certain point, it just becomes more bulk to rub against the insides of my thighs around the saddle. |

Running in regular shorts would cause me to be unable to let my thighs touch for a week!! |

Oh, there's a changing tent at ChesapeakeMan alright...last year, as a fellow finisher commented to me after the race, "There was a lot of carnage in there!" Seeing as how it was in the 90's that day with no shade anywhere on the course, plus solid winds...T2 was ugly! Personally, I was completely fine with tri shorts the whole way through. A sore tooshie would be the least of my concerns training for 140.6! Good luck! |

Master 1588 San Francisco | Subject: RE: Ironman Bike Pad, 140.6 Finishers Only Tom Demerly. - 2011-04-07 9:42 AM My solution has been tri shorts with a De Soto neoprene seat cover over my saddle. Best of both worlds. I ended up trying a couple different things the last couple weekends, but new Desoto tri shorts and neoprene seat cover worked great this weekend so that's the solution for me. Thanks Tom for sharing your wisdom. |

Expert 1123 Falls Church, VA | Subject: RE: Ironman Bike Pad, 140.6 Finishers Only I had been scared to try my tri shorts for my long ride, just wore them on Sunday for a 3.5 hour ride and I think they felt better than my bike shorts. Most high performance pads are minimal as well, but my tri shorts are some of my most comfy shorts. |

x2...run in the tri shorts. Wet running shorts are miserable. |
