I've seen many bike photos w/ some type of bag and/or bag & bottle combo holder which attaches behind the seat. Any specific type better than others? Are there other ways of carrying these essentials while riding/racing? I know nothing about any of this so, I'm asking the greater BT brain. I have a Cervelo P2 for a bike, if that makes any difference.

There are a bunch of option. For behind the seat, i know pretty many people have had luck with one of the xlab mounts. They make one specifically for Cevelos seat post.

Others simply attach a water bottle mount to the fram and shove tubes, CO2, etc inside the bottle.

i just got the Xlab for my cervelo.  No need to get the Kona bag like I did.  I little to big for what I need it for.  They have a smaller bag that works fine.  I have it set up with 2 gorilla cages also.

everything else i tried, just didn't work cuz of the seat post

x2 on the gorilla cages. They are the only cages where I havent had an issue with launching bottles.

Some others here have found workarounds with rubber bands and other things with standard cages.

I use the X Lab, two carbon cages, and the medium bag under the wing. I feel much safer with the option on having aflat kit without taking up nutrition/water bottle space. At half/full distance that one bottle can mean alot.

I use a zip lock bag and gaffer's tape. I couldn't find a bag that I liked, and based on some other advice here I tried this. It works like a charm, is very cheap and easy to replace if needed. You can also squeeze some of the stuff between the seat rails so less is in the air stream.

X4 on the X-lab. I have a super wing with the medium bag underneath, gorilla cages and the little mini bag that goes into the little space between the water bottles.

With one bottle I have concentrated nutrition so other than grabbing some plain water, I am fully self supported on 100 milers.

It crossed my mind the other day that there is this long hollow tube right under your seat that you might be able to put something in.  Any guesses why no one ever crams stuff in there?

(I claim all rights to this idea if it's original!)

Is that only on Cervelos? I don't have a long hollow tube under my seat, except between the seat rails - which is where I cram my stuff.

A tube "under" your seat.

See that hole at the top of the post?  That's the one I'm talking about.  (Image stolen from the web)

I mean, yea, it's going to be tight and you'll have to take your seat off to get to it but it's pretty much wasted space.

I tried, and you can stuff a tube in a Cervelo seatpost. I'm guessing the reason "no one" does this, is that in a race it would be a PITA to take the seat off, and for training, well, who cares about the little extra drag of a bag (or taping it under the seat).

I'm a super-newb, though, so I could be wrong....

Many bikes don't have the open spot between the stays any more. Here's my solution (zip lock bag and gaffer's tape).
