Fearless Swimming for triathletes: Improving your Open water skills

Got it today from amazon and skimmed through the first half and it made me feel like when I was in school studying medical conditions....when you studied you felt like you had all the conditions you were reading about.....in this book it seems to make you think you have a cardiac problem, you will be eaten by a shark (LOL) , or the worst case scenario will happen.....I thought it was going to help me and maybe give me some pointers, not psyche me out......its funny I never considered myself worrying about the OWS till i read books and read threads on this board...maybe I need to live in a bubble and just be let out for races....I may be exagerating a little, ill be absolutely fine, but it seems ignorance is truly bliss!!

so is this book worth reading? or did I just waste 14 bucks?

Sometimes it's better to just be a little dumb.  Too much info can be a dangerous thing.

First OWS,  I went to the race sight, looked accross the lake and thought "okay a half mile out and back should be about that far".  Next morning, with bouys, it was about 3 times the distance I thought.  If I had of known the night before I never would have slept.  It wasn't a bad thing to be totally clueless.

It's worth reading.

The number of close calls I've had in the water constantly remind me of how unforgiving the environment is. I managed them by having good training and being familiar with the circumstance I was in: Someone had briefed me on what to do. As a result, I just flipped the "If this, do that" switch.

If this book helps keep that switch at the ready- good.

I tend to agree with this at times lol

For those interested......Now that I am about 33 pages into it, I take back what my original impression was, already getting some good tips that I had not thought of or heard anyone talk about...so far so good, so as long as I get through the sudden cardiac death section ill be ok!!
