The beauty of this not-tri is that anyone can come and do anything they want. I think more details on distances and markers may come out soon, but that may also be on page 1...I forget. It is too bad that you can't hang around for the best part of the day...eating. |

I know that at least one BTer has been swimming in Trout Lake this week and that person did not lose any body parts. So it can't be THAT cold |

I swam Island Lake (Spring Mill pond) yesterday with a few of the racing-greyhounds. It was my first ever OWS. I loved it!!! When I first put my feet in the water, I thought we were all crazy. It was ridiculously cold. Low 50s. The people along the shore with their fleece coats and sweat shirts looked at us like we were about commit mass suicide. I swear I heard someone say, "don't do it". That might have just been the voice in my head. Once I got in a little further, my wet suit surprisingly did its job. After that initial shock to the face was gone, the cold water temps did not bother me one bit. It felt great to swim without bumping off of a wall every 25m. |

Expert 833 Adrian, MI | Subject: RE: OFFICIAL THREAD: BT Unofficial Triathlon - Island Lake - Sunday, May 15th Trish, you are too nice. I swam at Trout Lake Wednesday, Kent Lake today (I would have swam again at Trout - but had to hurry home for Mothers Day!). After my run today I quickly changed into my sleeve-less wetsuit and hit the lake - quite refreshing! Is the water cold? Not as much as you would think, honestly. And it's only going to get warmer... what with Spring finally here! Edited by fromer 2011-05-08 2:53 PM |

I'm a proficient swimmer, scuba diver, etc... but never done a true tri OWS. I don't want to hold anyone back or cause unnecessary complications to the day, but if the group is a come as you are and we'll watch your back kind of group, I'd love to join in. Need to get the first OWS under my belt and I've never been to Island Lake before. I also need to ride for an hour and run for 30 minutes on Saturday!!! |

You have come to the ABSOLUTE right place and will be better for it for showing up! Amazing group of VERY supportive folks here. FWIW, I am going to have to make a last minute decision on Sunday. I need to travel for work and need to decide if I can do both this event and the drive on Sunday. Leaning towards being there and have to find the time to mesquite smoke some chicken between now and then just in case. |

Master 1895 | Subject: RE: OFFICIAL THREAD: BT Unofficial Triathlon - Island Lake - Sunday, May 15th For anyone unfamiliar with the Island Lake Recreation Area....you'll make a right immediatly after the booths (where you pay or show your tag to get in) and follow the winding road until you see the Spring Mill Pond area on your left. You shouldn't miss it....you'll come down a big hill, then it curves a little to your right, and the drive/parking lot for Spring Mill Pond will be on your left. Just look for the people with bikes who are putting on wetsuits and come over to introduce yourself. Here's a quick overview of the course...and those of you that have done this a few times feel free to add anything I may forget. Swim - start on the beach and swim clockwise around the perimiter of the pond. One time around is somewhere between 500-600 meters. Bike - head out of the Spring Mill Pond parking lot and turn right. Follow the road back to the park entrance, and turn right. Take it all of the way to the end of the park, turn around behind the dumpster (you'll see it), and go back the way you came. Bike past Spring Mill pond. Evenually, you'll cross over rail road tracks and come to a parking lot...this is the other end of the park. You'll turn around and bike back to Spring Mill Pond. This is about a 12 mile loop. Run - Run out of the Spring Mill parking lot and turn left (run against traffic). Take this out 1.5 miles and then back. There was a marker that you can look out for to know when to turn around...but I forget what it is. Anyone remember? Out and back is about 3 miles. You can do each leg as many times as you want. It is totally up to you. Just come out and have some fun. |

Yay! Chicken Dip is coming! I cheated on my bike with yoga over the winter and she is still mad at me, so I decided I'd show her some love on Sunday (and of course because I am dying to get out and train with everyone). Now I just need to find a quick minute to swap out the junk tire I have on her for trainer use with the good one. Has anyone taken the water temp out there yet!?!?!?!? |

@ Red Zone ...I'm in for one of your veggie burgers! I added my name and am hoping for nice weather! If there's a need for anything I can bring that's not on the list, please let me know. Otherwise I'll just bring something yummy....maybe a fruit tray. If my wife comes along (non-triathlete), can she join in on the festivities (food) if she adds something to the pot? p.s. Veggie Burger for me please - YUM! I'm already excited .... first OWS here I come !!! |
