First 3 episodes have been great but for one thing: dude, whats with all the incest!

I get that the Dayna was probably scared of the big dude she was marrying but it wasnt exactly rape.  okay, but hte incest is just creepy.  Particulary since (and I have not read the books), I have to beleive we will learn that Joffry [sp] is really the child of Jamie and Cercei [sp].  It just gives me the heebie jeebies.

Other than freaky mcfreak blond caressing his sis's boobs (which was creepy), isn't it just the Lannisters or am I forgetting another relationship?  It does put a damper on watching such things...

I downloaded the free sample from the first book to my kindle last week.  I honestly don't want to know much about what happens, so I am not reading ahead, but it's interesting to read a bit after watching, and to see what lines are included, how the story is changed, etc.    And I learn tidbits.  For example, "Snow" is the name given to all those born in the north that don't have a family name.

the brother of Danya was feeling her up in episode 1.

I thought snow was the name given to high born bastard sons.

I'll probably start reading the books on vacation this summer.

Just in the north.  Other regions give bastards a different last name.  "Snow" wouldn't make much sense in the tropics.  Other bastard names include "Stone" and "Flower".

I am now at the point of the book where I have passed the show, and I think I am going to slow down.  I prefer reading the rich detail after watching the show over reading and then watching.  You really realize how much the show necessarily has to leave out.  Still loving it though

So far I think the TV series has been written very well, they have to leave out a lot of content from the book, but so far the heart of it has been included in the show.

only complaint about the show is that they throw in gratuitous nudity and sex and some rape/almost-rape.  it adds nothing and not sure why they included it as it was not int eh book (which i just finished) last few episodes should be awesome! loved the scene of tywin lannister skinning the stag (symbol of house boratheon), which is not in the book.

I don't mind it

This seems to be the trend of all the network's shows.

loved the scene of tywin lannister skinning the stag (symbol of house boratheon), which is not in the book.

Except that there was no continuity between takes .  It was halfway skinned, then a quarter skinned, then all skinned, then back to halfway skinned

watched it on the trainer so i didnt notice that, but its sort of like the Wizard of OZ where Judy Garland's hair is a different length in virtually every scene.

As someone who was totally ignorant to the books, tonights episode came out of nowhere for me. I didnt realize that character was not going to be around very long.

Martin is a great author who has no qualms about having good people, main characters etc lose and die. Read the books, they are great. The series has done a very good job so far with keeping true to the story.

No kidding! I was thinking "No chance. He'll get out of it." Nope... I hate that little king.

I know he's a kid but I keep waiting for him to die....  badly.

Actors that I actually recognize and in main character roles are now gone.

Wondering what gave the infection to the Khal Dothracki guy.  Was it the sword or was it the goat women dressing that she put on it?

Amazing to have a mind to write down all those story lines and keep it all in synch.

Honestly I'm glad I read the book.  I did struggle through it somewhat as it is a long read and slow at times but still enjoyable.  They did a really good job of converting the story to video as well (even though Tyrion did fight in the battle instead of getting knocked out prior).

I'm on the second book, and its amazing, I can't put it down.  It appears the whole series is written as one long story, and the first sets the table for this one.

I couldn't agree more! I was so hoping that it was one of those misleading story lines...I am so sad for the loss of a lovable, respectable character and mad at that creepy little king!! I guess that's what happenes when you mate with your brother!

I can't stand that kid King...what a chump.  I do think that things can get pretty wierd and cool with the blood magic and Khal Drago, can't wait to see what happens next week.  Hoping he doesn't die since he is such a beast.
