Has anyone ever done the Cinco Du Mayo duathlon in Stillwater? It's coming up on May 7th and I'm planning on doing it along with my wife (Historygalwi, here on BT) provided mother nature doesn't give us more bad weather!  This will be her first duathlon and my 2nd.  They have two courses this year, a shorter 2/10/2 that she is doing, and a longer 5K/20/5K that I may do.  I have a half mary the following weekend, so I'm still 50/50 on how much I want to subject my body to in that short of a time period.  lol!

I competed at the Cinco Du Mayo Du last year taking second in my age group and had a great time! Have you ridden out there? The course is rather hilly on the bike and the run at least last year was an out and back. The out portion of the run is a gradual uphill for the first mile. I did the short course, so I've got no idea after that.

I'm running the Green Bay Half Marathon the weekend after so this year I'll be volunteering. Hope to see you out there!

If you're going to race, the price goes up $10 at midnight on Friday.

Are the hills really bad?  Not that I care much but I'm slightly concerned for my wife.  She can more than do it but I want her coming away from this with a positive feeling so she can build upon it.

I know the prices go up, but I usually wait to see what the weather is like.  Call me a "fair weather event" type of guy.  LOL!!!  I don't like doing a race if it's snowing and with the way things are going this year, that could happen!

Hey Lakelandsledder I'd go take a ride out there if your can. I like to climb, so I'm probably a bad judge of hills...that being said the first one is a little tough but the rest aren't near as bad. Make sure she signs up for the shorter race so that she doesn't have to face the first hill twice!! It'll be a very friendly race and is generally a little smaller, they'll be plenty of volunteers and people to cheer her on.

I was thinking about it...it seems like a nice low key way to ease back into doing some races. I'm not sure if I'm up to the longer one yet (although I am registered for Oakdale, so I suppose I should be :p), but the short one is a bit TOO short. Hmmm.

As for the course, if it's on the roads I'm thinking of...there are some rolling hills, but nothing monstrous.

I have been looking at the route and considering I am planning on doing a half mary the next week and the longer race looks like they just double up on distances (two times around on the bike instead of one) I think I'll stick with the shorter race for myself.  Thanks for the input!

I did the long last year.  One minor hill in the run then flattened out.  More hills then the general MN biker would like, but they were not a killer.

If you're worried about your legs, I'd stick with the short course.  It would be a fun warm up for the half the next weekend.

Exactly.....it's my first race of the year and with the half mary the next week I just wat to use this as my warm up for the season, more or less.  Looks like a fun time for sure!!!!!

I am also thinking of doing this race. I just did the New Orleans HIM this weekend, and I was looking at something fun to do. I was also waiting to see what the weather is going to be like!

Hate to hijack, but . . . .  How was NOLA for you?  I, and several others, were down there and were disapointed we didn't get a full race.  I also notice you are heading to IMCDA.  I'm training with several other for it too.  Good luck and safe training.

So, they have race day registration for this? I am toying with the idea of doing it, since it's close to home...but if I wake up to rain, I would go back to bed :p

Sorry I missed your post.  Yes, they did have same day registration but I had to pay cash and the price was a little high at $70 each.  Was watching the weather also and all week and even hours before the race they called for rain only to have to sun come out and it warm up!

None the less, the wife ( HistorygalWI )and I had a great time and it was her first ever event and she did great, never getting off the bike and never walking on the run!  The first hill killed both of us since I have been rehabbing a knee injury for the last 4 weeks and did very little cardio since.  The first hill flared up my sports asthma which hasn't been a problem in a long time, so I spent the next 5 miles on breathing techniques to get back into a groove.  I wound up finishing 25th out of 116 people with a time of 1:12:47.
