Subject: Recovery ride everyday? I have started to get a little bit hooked on an easy recovery spin on the trainer while watching TV with the wife at nite. Nothing serous, just 15-20 minutes on a very easy gear and 80-90 cadence. Not enough to work up a sweat, but enough to get the legs feeling nice and loose before going to bed. I focus on smooth circles and occasionally throw in a little bit of 1 pedal practice. I am starting to do this almost every night of the week as it does not cut into my training time or family time. My logic is that it: 1) Helps to promote recovery by getting circulation up to flush out the junk and move in fresh blood. The way my legs feel afterwards is proof positive. 2) Has a very mild training effect in that I am repeating a muscular movement that is incredibly sport specific, improving muscle memory, while not increasing actual training load. Better muscle memory=less effort to perform a motion as it becomes more natural. I can't imagine there is any downside here, but would appreciate some input from those more experienced. Even at an easy pace am I still introducing stress that may lead up to over-training symptoms? Or is this workout too easy for a fit and "trained" person? Thanks in advance. |
